WebeganourresearchinJanuary,followingtheendofDecembervacation.Themajorityofour researchtranspiredduringschoolhours,whenweutilizedthedatabasesprovidedbytheschools MediaCenter,aswellasthewidelyusedsearchengineGoogle,toconductresearchonthemarch.The GaleVirtualReferenceLibraryandtheSalemHistorydatabaseswereextremelyvaluableinourpursuit ofthesourcesneededtoconstructourwebsite.Googlesinvaluablefunctionasasearchengine programmedtoscourtheinternetforinformationgreatlyaidedourefforts,directingustonumerous websiteswithinformationonourtopic.Throughoutthetimespentcomposingthewebsite,theresearch wasconductedcontinuously,sothatadditionalinformationcouldbelocatedasnecessary. However,themarchaccomplisheditsmissionofgainingattentionfortheplightofAfricanAmerican activistswhoworkedtowardstheendofracialdiscrimination.Theattentionturnedintosympathy, whichturnedintothesupportneededtocreatechange.TheeffortsofwhiteandAfricanAmericans workingtogetherresultedintheenactmentoftwolandmarkbills,theCivilRightsActof1964andthe VotingRightsActof1965,whichweremonumentalachievementsfortheCivilRightsMovement.As the50thanniversaryofthemarchdrawsnearer,peopleofallracescanreflectonthemarchasthe reasonforthevastlyimprovedracialequalitythatwehavetheprivilegetoexperiencetoday.
