M.I.S
Stands for Management Information System, helps management in monitoring, controlling, decision making and administrative activities. The data which is available through MIS is summarized and presented in concise reports on a regular basis.

MIS is a information system which process data and convert it into information. MIS uses TPS for its data input.

CHARACTERISTICS
In any organization managers will have varieties of tasks to manage. MIS is mainly designed to take care of the needs of the managers in the organization. MIS aids in integrating the information generated by various departments of the organization. MIS as a system can be broken down into sub systems. Each such sub system may be programmed. This results in easy access of data, accuracy of data and information.

T.P.S
TPS stands for Transaction Processing System and collects, stores, modifies and retrieves all information about transactions in an organization. A transaction here is referred to any event that generates or modifies the already stored information.

In many organisation transaction processing system is also known as data processing System. Its domain is the lowest level of the management hierarchy of an organisation E.g.:-order entry system, cheque processing systems, accounts receivable systems, payroll system and ticket reservation systems.

CHARACTERISTICS
A TPS records internal and external transactions for a company. It is a repository of data that is frequently accessed by other systems A TPS performs routine, repetitive tasks. It is mostly used by lower-level managers to make operational decisions Transactions can be recorded in batch mode or online. In batch mode, the files are updated periodically ,In online mode, each transaction is recorded as it occurs.
