Dear Parents/Caregivers, This term the Year 8 children will be studying the Living World, and as part of this

unit we have planned a visit to the New Zealand Marine Studies Centre at Portobello. During this visit the children will be able to view and learn more about a range of marine plants and animals. They will also have the thorough scientific knowledge of the aquarium staff at their disposal. This year we have also extended the focus at the aquarium and will also have the excitement of dissecting a shark! This extra session is simply named, Sharks, inside and out! Room 9 is scheduled to visit the Marine Studies Centre on Wednesday, 20th February. We will be leaving school at 9.00am with an expected return time of 3.00pm. The aquarium visit is from 9.3012.00. Weather permitting, we will then have lunch at Victory Beach and The Pyramids where we will complete a walk to look at the pyramids and part of the Okia Reserve. If the weather is against us, we will return to school by 12.30pm. The students can dress in sports mufti. They need to wear sturdy shoes with covered toes inside the aquarium (gym shoes). They will also need to bring lunch, a water bottle, a warm jersey and a waterproof jacket. The cost for this trip has been invoiced to students. This includes the charge for the Marine Studies Centre and a small donation towards petrol for the parents/caregivers who provide transport. Please complete the slip and return it as soon as possible to give your child permission to join us on the trip and to let me know if you can help out with transport and supervision. Yours sincerely Phillipa Dick ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Room 9s Portobello Visit I give permission for to attend the Otago Peninsula and aquarium visit.
