ECU Students Attend Columbia Model United Nations Conference in New York
ECUs Model United Nations Club officers attended the Columbia University Model United Nations Conference in New York (CMUNNY) which is Columbia Universitys first intercollegiate Model United Nations Conference. The inaugural conference was held on October 19-22, 2006 at Columbia Universitys campus in New York City. The conference offered students the opportunity to join a diverse selection of committees ranging from independent international bodies, such as the European Council, to UN-based committees such as the Historical Security Council. These committees fostered intense political debate while creating a fun environment for a variety of delegates. East Carolinas attendees were Elizabeth Kristian Lauten (President of the MUN club) representing Netherlands in the European Council; Matthew Stephenson Herrmann (Vice-President) role-playing as Lien Fang in the Grand Council of the Boxer Rebellion in China in 1900; and Preston James Stanford (Secretary) and Shawn Patrick Salzler (Treasurer) jointly representing Angola and Asmara (a make-believe country) in the International Court of Justice.
