Mrs. Beth W. Smith, x1204 Mrs.

Linda Celli, x1206 Business Education Department 412-571-6000 Dear Parents: It is my pleasure to welcome you and your child to the Business Education Department. It is our every intention to provide a positive learning environment for every student. As a parents involvement in their childs education is very important, please feel free to contact us at the above phone numbers with any questions or concerns. We will return your calls as soon as possible. In an effort to accomplish the goal of introducing and broadening the knowledge of the students via our computer labs, a set of rules and our consequences have been established to enable all students an equal opportunity to learn. These rules have been reviewed with the students and are posted in the classroom for their continued review. These rules are enforced at all times in the department computer labs, rooms 204 and 206.

LAB RULES:
1. Be in your assigned seat when the bell rings and remain in your seat throughout the class period unless printing an assignment or other classroom need. 2. Raise your hand for the teachers attention. Do not yell out in class. 3. You are expected to be here every day during the class period that you are scheduled to meet. If you are detained in another class, you will need a note from that teacher with your time of departure from that class to gain entry. **4. Keep hands, feet, objects, and comments to yourself. There will be no tolerance of students touching or adjusting another students computer or assigned work. 5. There will be absolutely no food, gum or candy permitted in the labs at any time. **FOOD AND BEVERAGE CLAUSE: If food, candy or gum is found being consumed in this computer lab, an immediate office referral will be issued and the items will be immediately disposed of in the classroom. Capped Water Bottles are the only beverages permitted in the computer labs and must be kept sealed and on the floor during class time when not being consumed. **COMPUTER LAB CLAUSE: Because of the computer equipment being only one (1) year old, there is an extreme emphasis on appropriate behavior and respect for it. Every student has been assigned a work station which is their responsibility while they are in class. They will be held accountable for any misuse, abuse or damage to their work station.

Page 2 **CHEATING ON ASSINGMENTS: If any student is caught cheating on any assignments (i.e. any student utilizing another students work and submitting as their own, any student agreeing to reproduce their assignments and provide them to another to be submitted as their own), will receive the following consequences: 1. 1st Offense: 0 on all assignments involved, written paperwork referral to the Principals Office, phone call home, (these assignments are not permitted to be resubmitted for a grade at any time). 2. 2nd Offense: 0 for the semester as a final failing grade and removal from the class. There will be no exceptions (see the student handbook). **MAKE-UP WORK: Due to the specific software located exclusively in the Business Department Computer Labs, (rooms 204 and 206), all make-up work must be completed in these locations. Any work needing to be done outside of the time permitted during the students scheduled class period, must be arranged through their individual teachers for that class. **SEVERE DISCIPLINE CLAUSE: Any student creating a severe disruption, or threatening harm to him/her or another, will immediately be escorted to the principals office. Unfortunately, a few of our students may choose to break the classroom rules. Therefore, we have created a set of general consequences that will follow a broken rule (see the FOOD AND BEVERAGE CLAUSE for an exception to the classroom consequences). As a parent, I want you to be aware of these consequences and support us if we need to work with your childs behavior to help him/her be successful in our classes:

OUR CONSEQUENCES ARE:

1. Verbal warning and phone call home. 2. Verbal warning and application of a 15 minute classroom detention to be held after school. 3. An office referral (Incident Report) and a request for a parent conference. Hopefully, every child will choose to work hard and diligently to help us create a positive environment conducive to maximum learning. Please review our classroom rules and consequences with your child. Working together, we will establish an enjoyable class where your child will grow and be successful. Thank you in advance for your support. Sincerely,

Beth W. Smith, Teacher, Lab 204 Linda Celli, Teacher, Lab 206
