Outcomes and Indicators

Making

VAS1.1 Makes artworks in a particular way about experiences of real and imaginary things - talks about significant features and relationships of objects, referring to such things as shapes, materials, proportion and colour in their artwork. VAS1.2 Uses the forms to make artworks according to varying requirements -thinks about how they can interpret the teachers requirements for art making -experiments with the properties of different drawing, paint media and tools to depict an artworks that reflects a particular culture.

Students in Stage 1 will: Learn to:

- explore different kinds of subject matter and concepts in their making of artworks - make different kinds of artworks including paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography, digital artworks and videos - appreciate art from another culture.

Learn about:

-the diversity of kinds of things that are made as art (e.g. paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs) -who audiences are, what they do and where they look at art -the purpose of art in a particular culture

Teachers of Stage 1 students will:

-provide opportunities for students to talk and write about their artworks, as well as those made by other members of the class -provide opportunities for students to closely observe the characteristics of interesting things and experiences through books, drawing and photography. -extend students opportunities with different media, tools and techniques and assist them, through demonstration and experimentation, to capture likeliness -extend students opportunities to imitate accurately

Sequence of Learning Experiences Decorative Photo Frame Prior to lesson: Ask students to bring in a photo of themselves with their family or a family member to be used as part of the activity.

Evaluation

-Students are asked questions about photographs: What are

photographs? Why do we take photographs and keep them? What do we take photographs of? Where do we keep photographs? -Students apply glue onto a frame and stick buttons and/or other materials available (they may choose to make a pattern or randomly place the buttons) -Display and discuss artworks

My Family

-Students are asked questions about their family: Who is in your family? What does each member of your family do? What does each of your family members look like? -Using oil pastels students draw circles on A3 paper to represent the number of people in their family. They can then add the details and facial features also using oil pastels. Once drawing is complete they can choose one water colour to paint over their artwork. -Display and discuss the artworks

Boomerangs

-Students are asked questions about artefacts they have learnt about and the different purposes they served. Revise tools aborigines used and the tools they might use today. -Provide each student with 2 boomerang outlines on card. -using paint and cotton ear buds or tip of paintbrush, students can create a dot pattern onto the boomerang. -the following week they can continue their pattern on the other boomerang. -once dry they can be cut and stuck back to back. -Display and discuss the artworks

Dreamtime Stories

-Discuss with students how stories are told and passed in different cultures. - Select 2 dreamtime story books to read to the class such as how the birds got their colours, rainbow serpent, how the sun was made etc. -Discuss with students the rich illustrations and colours. Also ask them why they think particular colours were selected and what they represent. -Students are to draw a picture imitating one they have seen or one that represents the story overall using lead pencil -Once complete they can paint their pictures. -Details can be added with oil pastels after the artwork has

dried. -students can record a description of their illustration on the bottom or reverse side. -Display and discuss the artworks
