Abdominal Pain (Colic)

Sudden, agonising, gripping pain in the abdomen is called abdominal

colic.

Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these medicines match with most of

your symptoms:

Colocynth 30 : Very severe, agonising pain in the abdomen, especially in

the evening from 4 to 9 p.m. The pain comes in paroxysms, becoming so
terrible every few minutes that the patient bends forward and twists and
turns in bed to get relief. Discharge of gas, either from the mouth or the
anus, relieves pain.

Dioscorea 30 : Violent colic due to indigestion, occurring in regular

paroxysms, as if the intestines were grasped and twisted by a powerful
hand. Pain gets worse from bending double or lying down but becomes
less on standing erect or bending backward.

Mag phos 30 : Severe, unbearable pain in the abdomen that comes in

paroxysmal attacks. The pain compels the victim to loosen clothes and
bend forward. Pressing or massaging the abdomen or applying heat to the
abdomen. relieves pain. Discharge of gas does not relieve pain.

Mag phos should be used when Colocynth fails to relieve abdominal pain.

Plumbum 30 : Excessive pain in the abdomen from indigestion and

obstinate constipation. The pain starts at the navel and then spreads in all
directions. The victim feels that the stomach (abdominal wall) is being
pulled by a string towards the backbone.

Notes:

1. Take a few pills of the selected medicin every 10-15 minutes, till
the pain subsides.
Acidity (Hyperacidity; Burning in the stomach)
Excessive intake of non-vegetarian, spicy or fried foods and mental
tension give rise to hyperacidity. If the condition is not treated in time, an
ulcer may develop in the stomach.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these medicines closely match with

most of your symptoms:

Argentum nitricum 30 : Burning and pain in the stomach with severe

belching and flatulence (gas). There is a sensation of splinter in the
stomach. There is a great liking for sugar, sweets and salt. However,
consumption of sweets causes diarrhoea. Diarrhoea is also caused by
undue apprehension just before embarking upon an important activity.

Carbo veg 30 : Acidity from consumption of alcohol, coffee, meat and

fish, causing incessant sour or rancid eructations. So much gas
accumulates in the stomach that the victim feels the abdomen will burst.
There is an intolerance of tight clothing around the abdomen.

Robinia 30 : An excellent remedy for severe burning in the stomach,

associated with pain in the forehead. Intensely sour eructations occur,
frequently culminating into vomiting of a sour fluid. The whole body and
the stools smell sour. Indeed, Robinia is the remedy of first choice in the
treatment of acidity.

Notes:

1. Consume a simple, bland diet.

2. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty percent
improvement occurs. Restart the medicine if symptoms again or
reappear later.

from a close distance. Carbo veg may prove to be life-saving when a
person seems collapsing or sinking from a severe attack of
breathlessness.

Ipecacuanha 30 : An attack of asthma especially in winter, preceded by

severe nausea and vomiting; soon there is violent constriction in the
throat and the chest, wheezing and dry cough leading to suffocation;
persistent nausea (not relieved even after vomiting) and thirstlessness
confirm the choice of Ipecac.

Nux vomica 30 : An attack of asthma after digestive upset; prolonged

breathlessness from midnight till morning; shallow, oppressive breathing
with dry cough; with asthma, there is bursting headache and gripping
pain in the stomach; frequent, ineffectual desire for stool.

above-listed medicines seems matching or if the selected medicine
does not help, consult a competent homoeopathic doctor.

Backache (Lumbago), Sciatica

Back-pain, particularly in the lower (lumber) region of the spine, is one of
the most common scourges of mankind. Very few people live their lives
without experiencing backache in one form or the other.

Homeopathic Treatment

back and causing inexplicable mental irritability. Backache worsens from
application of dry heat. However, cold applications relieve pain.

Cimicifuga 30 : For excessive muscular soreness and aching in the whole

back (especially lumbar region) from sitting for prolonged periods. The
pain is relieved by massage or by moving about (walking).

unaccustomed exertion or from incorrectly lifting a heavy weight. The
pain seems to get worse after a period of inactivity but improves from
pressure (lying on the back) or massage.
Notes:

1. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty per cent

improvement has occurred. Restart the medicine if symptoms
worsen again or reappear later.

Bad Breath (Halitosis)

Bad breath is caused by problems of the teeth/gums or indigestion or
chronic respiratory diseases. The cause should be sought and treated.

Burning or Painful Urination

A swelling (inflammation) of the urinary bladder, the prostate or the
urethra may cause burning or pain while passing urine, combined with a
sense of urgency; the urine may flow out intermittently or drop-wise.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these medicines match with most of

your symptoms:

Aconite 30 : Severe burning and pain, especially at the beginning of

urination, accompanied by great fear (the patient feels he is about to die).
The symptoms are worse at night.

Apis 30 : Scanty, frequent and painful urination, with great urgency (can
scarcely retain the urine for a moment). Urine flows out drop-wise after
much straining. While passing out, the urine severely scalds the passage;
especially the last drop burns and smarts.

Belladonna 30 : Frequent, burning, painful and scanty urine which flows

out drop by drop. The urinary organs are very sensitive to pressure or
motion.

Berberis vulgaris 30 : Frequent slow urination with burning pain in the

bladder, thighs and loins while urinating, especially at the end. However,
the urethra (final passage) burns even when not urinating. Sensation of
some urine left behind even after complete urination. Urine contains thick
mucous and bright-red sediment.

Cannabis sativa 30 : There is frequent or constant desire to pass urine.

While passing urine, there is severe burning and pain, which becomes
violent at the end of urination. Urine contains thick yellow or red material.
The urethra is so sensitive to touch and pressure that the victim keeps his
legs wide apart while walking.

Cantharis 30 : Constant urge to pass urine, but only a few drops pass
out at a time. There is such violent, cutting or stabbing (as from a knife)
pain in the bladder region that the person screams while passing each
drop. Drinking coffee or cold water worsens the problem; warm
applications to the bladder region seem to help.

Nux vomica 30 : There is frequent, ineffectual urge for urination. Urine,

passing out in drops, causes itching, irritation and burning pain, which
even extends to the genital organs and the legs.

Sarsaparilla 30 : Urine passes out in a thin, feeble stream. There is

severe, almost unbearable pain at the conclusion of urination (like Apis,
Berberis). The urine dribbles while sitting but passes more freely while
standing.
Staphisagria 30 : Though an urgent need is felt for passing urine, the
person has to wait for a long time before urine actually flows out. Burning
in the urinary passage when not urinating (like Berberis). Sensation as if
a drop of urine were rolling continuously along the urinary passage.

Summary of indications:

• Sudden, acute problem: Aconite, Belladonna

• Burning/pain at the beginning of urination: Aconite
• Burning/pain at the time of passing urine: Belladona, Berberis,
Cantharis, Nux v
• Burning/pain worse at the end of urination: Apis, Berberis,
Cannabis, Sarsaparilla
• Burning/pain even when not urinating: Berberis, Staphisagria

Notes:

1. It is desirable to get the urine analaysed to determine the presence

or absence of micro-organisms, blood or other abnormalities.
2. For further guidance about the dose and repetition of the selected
medicine.
3. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty per cent
improvement has occurred. Restart the medicine if symptoms
worsen again or reappear later.

Chicken Pox
Chicken pox is a highly infectious viral disease of children characterised by
skin-rashes which appear in crops, first on the chest and the back and
then spreading to the face, the scalp and the limbs. There is severe
itching of the affected skin. Thick crusts soon form on the rashes and are
finally shed off.

Homeopathic Treatment

Chicken pox can be prevented by giving your child two or three doses of
Variolinum 200 or Malandrinum 200 on successive days. This is, indeed, a
good idea if cases of chicken pox are seen in the neighbourhood or your
child's school.

However, if your child has already contracted an infection of chicken pox,

give him one of the below-given remedies whose symptoms closely
match.

Aconite 30 : Sudden onset of acute symptoms accompanied by undue

fear, causing anguish and restlessness. During fever, the child demands
large quantities of cold water (like Dulcamara, Mercurius) and likes to be
in open air.
Antimony tart 30 : Rashes more on genitals, anus and back, forming
painful crusts. Constant drowsiness with an irresistible desire to sleep, a
craving for apples and citrus fruits, a dislike for milk and a desire to be in
cool, open air (like Aconite) are other pointers to this remedy.

Dulcamara 30 : Rashes, especially on the face, the scalp and the arms,
without any fever. Scratching of the skin causes intense burning which is
relieved by a warm bath but aggravated by a cold bath. Milky whiteness
of urine is another feature of this medicine.

Kali mur 6 : Rashes and pustules having thick, white contents and
converting into dry, white scales call for this remedy. The tongue has a
grayish white coating.

Mercurius sol 30 : Rashes and pustules with intense itching and pain,
worse at night from the warmth of bed. The discharge from pustules, the
breath and profuse perspiration, all have an offensive smell. An important
feature is acute thirst for large quantities of cold water (like Aconite,
Dulcamara).

Rhus tox 30 : Rashes with much swelling, burning and itching causing
excessive restlessness. Itching and burning are relieved by warm
applications/bath. There is an aversion to open air.

Colitis
Colitis means an inflammation of the large intestine.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these medicines match with most of

your symptoms:

Arsenic 30 : Pain in the abdomen, especially at midnight from 12-2 a.m.

The stools are dark, offensive and loose, with a cadaveric odour; burning
in the anus and great prostration during and after stools. There is
extreme mental restlessness and fear, the victim feeling he is about to
die.

Lachesis 30 : Ulcerative colitis with offensive, bloody stools. Excessive

sensitiveness to touch, an intolerance of tight clothing and a
jealous/suspicious nature are other pointers to this remedy.

Mere cor 30 : Ulcerative colitis with copious, offensive bloody and slimy
stools. There is severe, colicky pain in the abdomen before, during and
after the stools. Other distinguishing features include: intense thirst and a
moist, swollen tongue.
Pbos 30 : Colitis with burning in the abdomen and the anus, and stools
containing bright red blood. An oversensitive nature and a craving for cold
foods/drinks are other pointers to this medicine.

Notes:

1. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty per cent

improvement occurs. Restart the medicine if symptoms worsen
again or reappear later.

Common Cold; Blocked Nose

Common cold is considered a viral infection of the inner surface of the
nose, characterised by sneezing and discharge of a watery or thick fluid,
which also blocks the nose. Though not a serious disease, cold causes a
lot of discomfort, misery and embarrassment to the sufferer.

Homeopathic Treatment

Aconite 30 : Cold from exposure to cold air; sudden attack of cold with
much sneezing, pain at the root of the nose and/or forehead, scanty nasal
discharge and blockage of nostrils; face is red and hot; there is an
'unquenchable thirst for large quantities of cold water and a desire to be
in open air; great restlessness and anxiety.

Allium cepa 30 : Cold from rainy weather; profuse, watery discharge

from the nose as well as the eyes - while the discharge from the nose is
acrid (causing burning), that from the eyes is bland; the nose starts
flowing in a warm room but stops flowing in open air; the cold may be
accompanied by irritating/painful cough which compels the person to
grasp the throat.

Arsenic 30 : Cold from eating cold foods, icecream or ice in the winter or
from sea-bathing; thin, watery acidic discharge from the nose which is
less indoors but increases in open air (unlike Aconite, Allium cepa,
Euphrasia, Pulsatilla); there is inexplicable prostration, fear and anguish.

Belladonna 30 : Sudden attack of cold from exposure to summer sun

(like Mere sol), characterised by fluent, blood-stained discharge from the
nose and a throbbing headache; the face is red and hot (like Aconite) but
the person feels better in a warm room (unlike Aconite).

Euphrasia 30 : Profuse, bland discharge from the nose and severe acrid
(burning) tearing, causing sore eyes; the cold may descend to the larynx,
causing 'day time cough'; the person feels better in open air (like Aconite,
Allium cepa, Pulsatilla).
Gelsemium 30 : An attack of cold in cold, rainy weather, which comes on
gradually; there may be symptoms of influenza like dizziness, trembling,
fever, bodyache and dull headache (which is relieved by urination); the
person feels better in open air (like Aconite, Allium cepa, Euphrasia,
Pulsatilla).

Natrum mur 30 : An attack of cold commencing with violent sneezing

and followed by fluent discharge (resembling white of an egg) from the
nose; the person feels better in open air and by cold bathing. A craving
for salt, greasy face and a weeping disposition would confirm Natrum mur.

Nux vomica 30 : An attack of cold in cold, dry weather; the nose runs
during the day and in open air but becomes dry or blocked at night; a
desire to be in a closed room with body wen-covered and frequent
ineffectual desire for stools confirm the choice of Nux vomica.

Mercurius sol 30 : An attack of cold in damp weather or from wandering

in strong sunshine (like Belladonna), beginning with much sneezing;
acrid, thick, greenishyellow, pus-like nasal discharge, more at night.
Intense thirst for large quantities of cold water and profuse, offensive
perspiration confirm the choice of Mercurius.

Pulsatilla 30 : An attack of cold after eating rich, fatty food; the nasal
discharge is thick, greenish-yellow but bland (non-burning); a desire to be
in open air, thirstlessness and a mild, weeping nature confirm the choice
of Pulsatilla.

Notes:

1. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty per cent

improvement occurs.

Conjunctivitis
Conjunctivitis means an inflammation (swelling) of the most superficial
membrane covering the eye. It is characterised by redness of and
discharge from the eyes, causing their agglutination in the morning.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of the below-given remedies match with

most of your symptoms:

Aconite 30 : Sudden, acute conjunctivitis with red eyes and swollen eye-
lids. The eyes are dry and hot and there is a feeling of sand in them. The
victim is restless and anxious and feels he is going to die. There is an
unquenchable thirst for cold water.
Argentum n 30 : Severe conjunctivitis, the inner corners of the eyes
looking especially red. There is profuse, pus-like discharge from the eyes.
There is a tired, aching feeling in the eyes which lessens on tightly closing
the lids, or applying cold compresses. A craving for sweets and an
apprehensive nature (causing diarrhoea) are other features of this
medicine.

Belladonna 30 : Sudden, severe conjunctivitis. Not only the eyes, but

the whole face appears red. Throbbing pain and burning in the eyes. The
pupils are abnormally large (dilated).

Euphrasia 30 : Acute conjunctivitis with redness and itching of the eyes.

The tears, which flow out constantly, are acrid, causing burning of the
eyes. Simultaneously, the nose also waters. But this fluid is bland (non-
burning). Warm applications to the eyes seem to worsen the problem.

Notes:

1. Redness and pain, without any discharge from the eyes excludes
conjunctivitis and signifies some other (perhaps serious) eye-
problem, warranting the attention of an eye-doctor.
2. If redness and discharge do not diminish in a day or two, consult an
eye-doctor without further delay

Constipation
Constipation is the natural consequence of leading a sedentary, irregular,
modern life.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these remedies match with most of

your symptoms:

Alumina 30 : Constipation due to dryness and inactivity of the intestines.

There is no desire to evacuate the bowels till there is a large accumulation
of stools. The stool, even though soft, requires much straining to be
expelled; it adheres to the rectum like clay. The person has an abnormal
craving for indigestible things like chalk, charcoal, etc. and an aversion to
meat and potatoes.

Bryonia 30 : Constipation due to extreme dryness of mucous membranes

of the large intestine. There is no desire to pass stools. When they do
pass out, the stools are hard and dry (as if burnt). Constipation causes
headache which becomes worse on moving the head. There is extreme
thirst for large quantities of cold water. There is a dislike for milk and fried
foods.
Grapbites 30 : Constipation due to dryness of mucous membranes. The
stools are very hard, in the form of large lumps which are joined together
by slimy threads. Constipation is relieved by drinking hot milk. A dry,
cracking skin and a sad, weeping disposition are other features of this
remedy.

Nux v 30 : Constipation from consuming an excess of tea-coffee and

leading a sedentary life. There is frequent, ineffectual desire to pass
stools. Only a small amount of stools are evacuated, the person never
feeling satisfied. Constipation, sometimes, alternates with diarrhoea. An
oversensitive nature and a tendency to catch colds are other pointers to
this remedy.

Senna 30 : The extract or concoction prepared from the leaves of senna

has been used as a purgative since ancient times. Severe constipation
with pain in the abdomen, especially in the liver region. The stools are
hard and dark. There is flatulence and loss of appetite.

Silicea 30 : Obstinate constipation; stools are retained for a long time in

the intestines. They pass out only after great straining. The stools are
partly expelled and then recede back, forcing the person to remove them
mechanically with the fingers. The patient has an intolerance for cold
weather. In fact, he wraps himself with warm clothes even in summer.
However, he has a liking for cold drinks and foods (ice-cream).

Notes :

1. Consume a high-fibre diet and drink plenty of fluids (water).

Perform exercises or yogasanas regularly.
2. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty per cent
improvement occurs.
3. If the selected medicine fails to help, consult a competent
homoeopathic doctor.

Cough; Bronchitis
Cough is the chief symptom of most respiratory diseases. It is nature's
method of expelling out any offending matter that is present in the
respiratory tract. Since it is a protective reflex, it is criminal to suppress it
with over-the-counter cough syrups.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these medicines match with most of

your symptoms:

Aconite 30 : Sudden, acute attack of cough from exposure to dry, cold

air (like Hepar). The cough is dry, painful and comes in short bouts, the
person grasping the throat while coughing. The cough is worse during
expiration, at night and from tobacco smoke but lessens in open air. There
is inexplicable restlessness, anguish and fear (of death) and
unquenchable thirst for cold water.

Belladonna 30 : Sudden, violent attack of dry cough which comes in

short bouts and causes redness of the face; a sensation of constriction in
the throat; the cough is worse when lying down at night, thereby
disturbing sleep; it lessens with warm drinks and in a warm room; there
is a dislike for open air (unlike Aconite).

Bryonia 30 : Dry, painful cough of gradual onset, in hot weather

(summer); the cough and the consequent pains in the throat and the
chest are worse from the slightest motion - therefore the person lies still
and holds the chest when coughing; excessive dryness of the mouth and
the throat, causing acute thirst (like Aconite and Mercurius) and the
intestine, causing constipation.

Drosera 30 : Violent, dry, whooping cough in young persons; bouts of

cough follow each other so rapidly that the child gets breathless, turns
blue and sweats profusely; sensation of a feather "in the throat that
excites cough; the cough is worse from talking, singing, when lying down,

accompanied by nausea and vomiting; a bout of vomiting does not relieve
nausea; long bouts of cough render the person breathless and blue in
face; cough is worse in cold, dry weather (winter) but improves by
warmth; thirstlessness (like Pulsatilla).

Kali bich 30 : Violent cough in summer with gagging and vomiting;

cough brings out tough, tenacious, stringy, yellow mucous; wandering,
painful spots in the chest that can be covered by tip of a finger; the cough
is worse in the morning, while sitting but is relieved on lying down or by
inhaling steam.

Mercurius sol 30 : Cough in warm, damp weather, which is dry at night

but brings out greenish yellow mucous during the day; the cough is worse
at night, especially when lying on the right side; trembling of the whole
body, profuse offensive perspiration and intense thirst for cold water are
other symptoms that confirm the choice of Mercurius.
Phosphorus 30 : Hard, dry and painful cough that shakes the whole
body and brings a sensation of tightness in the chest; a bout of cough is
excited by talking, laughing, drinking or lying on the left side (reverse of
Mercurius); cough less after sleep and from consuming cold drinks; tall,
lean, narrow chested and stoop-shouldered person oversensitive to the
environment.

Pulsatilla 30 : Cough that is dry and painful at night (compelling the

person to sit up) but brings out thick, bitter, yellowish green mucous in
the morning; cough worse when lying on the left side but better in open
air and by consuming cold drinks; mild, weeping nature and thirstlessness
confirm the choice of Pulsatilla.

Notes:

1. Cough is merely a symptom; the cause should be sought and

treated.
2. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty per cent
improvement occurs. Restart the medicine if symptoms worsen
again or reappear later.

your symptoms:

Belladonna 30 : Sudden throbbing pain, especially in the right ear, that

is so acute as to drive the victim crazy. Not only the affected ear but the
whole face becomes red and hot. Hearing becomes abnormally acute. The
ear is so sensitive that the victim does not allow anybody to touch it.

Chamomilla 30 : Severe pain and ringing in the ear driving the victim
frantic. The affected ear feels numb and stopped. The patient, usually a
child, constantly cries from pain and becomes quiet only when carried in
an arm; warm applications worsen pain.

Hepar sulph 30 : Throbbing pain in the ear, with discharge of offensive

pus and deafness. Oversensitiveness, a desire for warm clothing and
profuse foul/sour smelling perspiration are other features of this medicine.
Warm applications to the affected ear are soothing.

Merc sol 30 : Severe pain in the ear, especially in the evening and at
night, with thick, foetid, yellowish or bloody discharge. Pain is worse from
warmth. A trembling body, constant profuse perspiration and intense
thirst for large quantities of cold water are other pointers to this remedy.

Eczema
Eczema is considered an allergic disorder of skin characterised by patches
of redness with itching, burning, vesicle-formation and oozing. The skin-
patches appear black, raised and thickened.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these medicines match with most of

your symptoms:

Arsenic 30 : Black eczematous patches with itching and burning pain.

The burning increases on scratching the skin but is relieved by hot
applications. From the patches exudes a fluid with foul, cadaveric smell.
Severe mental agony and physical debility are other features.
Graphites 30 : Eczematous patches on bends of joints, groins, on the
scalp and behind the ears. On these patches occur small vesicles which
readily burst open to discharge a thin but very sticky fluid. In general, the
skin is unhealthy, rough, hard, dry and cracked, with almost constant
itching, worst at night and during menstrual periods. A striking feature of
this medicine is sad nature with a tendency to weep on hearing music.

Petroleum 30 : Eczema, especially of the scalp, in winter. There is

violent itching which forces the person to scratch off the skin. Thereafter,
thick, yellowish crusts form on those parts. In general the skin is
unhealthy, dry and cracked with profuse foul-smelling perspiration. All
skinproblems diminish in dry, hot weather (summer).

Psorinum 30 : Eczema of the scalp, checks and ears with violent itching
and soreness, which becomes worse on bathing and from warmth.
Incessant scratching leaves the skin hard and thickened. Perspiration is
absent or minimal. Inexplicable general debility and chilliness (requiring
warm clothes even in summer) are other features of this remedy.

Rhus tox 30 : Eczema, especially of the genitals, occurring during the

monsoon or winter. There are yellowish vesicles on the affected patches of
skin with much itching and burning. The person is restless, hardly able to
keep still.

Sulphur 30 : Eczema, with severe itching and burning causing an

aversion to bathing and washing. An intolerable hunger at 11 a.m. and a
disinclination to keep standing are other pointers to this medicine.

Notes:

1. Discontinue the medicine when about fifty per cent improvement is

felt. Restart the medicine if symptoms worsen again or reappear
later.
2. Resist the temptation to apply soothing creams, lotions or
ointments to the affected skin.

Fever
Fever is a symptom, not a disease. The cause of fever should be sought
and treated. However, in early fever, when it is not possible to diagnose
the actual cause, one of the following medicines may be tried, if the
symptoms match.

Homeopathic Treatment

Ferrum phos 30 : Fever, especially at night or in the early morning, with

headache which is relieved by cold applications. Vomiting of undigested
food is another feature of this medicine.
Pyrogen 30 : For rapidly rising fever with intense restlessness. There is
profuse, hot perspiration, which however, does not cause a fall in
temperature. The bed feels too hard. All discharges are horribly offensive.

Notes:

1. In case of very high fever, a dose of the selected medicine may be

repeated every fifteen minutes.
2. If there is an obvious cause of fever (e.g., colds, a respiratory
infection, sore throat, sinusitis, etc.), treat the cause.

Flu (Influenza)
Flu is a viral disease characterised by fever, malaise and body-ache.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these medicines match with most of

your symptoms:

Eupatorium perf 30 : For fever, whose onset is heralded by chill and an

insatiable thirst. There is a feeling of soreness and pain in the whole body,
as if beaten up. Profuse sweating relieves all pains except headache.

Gelsemium 30 : Influenza, with a feeling of fatigue and soreness in the

whole body. Dullness of the mind, dizziness, sleepiness, trembling and
thirstlessness are other features of this medicine.

Influenzium 30 : A medicine to be considered when none of the

medicines seems matching.

Rhus tox 30 : Influenza with a sore, beaten-up feeling in the body,

causing restlessness. Everything on which the patient lies seems too hard.
The patient is highly sensitive to open air and feels better when covered
up. The tongue tip is bright red.

Notes:

Discontinue the medicine when about fifty percent improvement occurs.

Gouty Arthritis
Gout is a metabolic disorder characterised by a deposition of uric acid
salts (especially sodium biurate) in connective tissues, like cartilage of
joint/s. In an acute attack, the affected joint becomes red, swollen and
excruciatingly painful. The joint of the big toe is most commonly affected
but other small joints (of fingers, ankles, wrists) are not immune to the
disorder.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these remedies match with most of

your symptoms:

Aconite 30 : For a sudden, violent attack of gout giving rise to

restlessness and acute fear, the patient feeling he is about to die. Pain in
the affected joint is so acute that the person tosses about in agony, not
being able to bear even light touch or pressure.

Arnica 30 : For gout in which the affected joint develops a sore, beaten-
up sensation. The patient cannot tolerate the joint being touched.

Belladonna 30 : The affected joint is red, swollen, hot and excruciatingly

painful, sensitive to least touch, pressure or motion. Rest and cold
compresses seem to relieve pain.

Bryonia 30 : Gout with red, swollen and hot joint which is exceedingly
painful. Pain gets aggravated with slightest motion, forcing the patient to
keep still. Symptoms get worse from warmth (weather, food/drinks) but
better by absolute rest, firmly bandaging the joint, pressing (massaging)
the joint or by lying on it.

Colchicum 30 : For gout that moves from one joint to another. Pain is so
severe that the patient can't bear even light touch. Joint-pain is worse by
slightest motion (like Bryonia), at night and in cold, damp weather but
better by rest and application of dry heat.

Eupatorium perl 30 : Indicated for gouty arthritis of left great toe that
recurs every third or seventh day and is accompanied by headache. There
is a feeling of soreness and broken bones in the whole body. The joint-
pain is worse from motion, pressure or exposure to cold air.

Lycopodium 30 : For chronic gout mainly affecting joints of the right

side of the body (e.g., right big toe). There is aching pain in the affected
joint, worse in the evening from 4 to 8 p.m. Pain is also worse after a
period of inactivity (e.g., on awakening from sleep) and from warmth or
pressure but better from cold applications and movement of the affected
joint.

Urtica urens 30 : For gout from eating shell-fish. Useful in acute gout
because it facilitates elimination of uric acid from the body. Gout is
associated with violently itching skin-rashes. Sometimes, joint-pain and
skin-rashes occur alternately. Joint-pain is worse from touch, pressure
and cold applications.
Notes:

1. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty percent

improvement has taken place. Restart the medicine if symptoms
worsen again or reappear later.

Headache
Headache occurs from a variety of causes, common among which are
mental tension, colds, sinusitis and eyestrain.

Homeopathic Treatment

A few medicines have been suggested for each variety of headache. The
reader should confirm the suitability of the medicine by referring to its
general symptoms.

Headache from colds: Allium cepa, Sticta

Headache from sinusitis: Belladonna, Kali bich

Headache from heat of sun: Belladonna, Glonoine

Headache from mental tension; Nux vomica

Headache from constipation; Aloe, Bryonia, Nux vomica

Headache from eye-strain: Ruta

Headache from loss of sleep: Nux vomica

Migraine headache: Belladonna, Iris, Nux vomica

Indigestion
Check if most symptoms of any of the below-given remedies match with
most of your symptoms:

Anacardium 30: Indigestion from sedentary habits and eating in a hurry

without proper chewing. Extreme forgetfulness and an irresistible desire
to curse and swear are other features of this medicine.

Carbo veg 30 : Even simple foods disagree, causing excessive gas, which
accumulates in the upper abdomen. Belching and passing flatus gradually
relieve the discomfort.

Lycopodium 30 : Indigestion from lack of physical exercise with an

accumulation of gas in the lower abdomen especially from 4 to 8 p.m.
Constant sour belching, often relieved by warm drinks. There is intense
hunger, but only a few morsels fill up the stomach. Craving for sweets and
warm foods / drinks is another feature of this remedy.

Nux v 30 : Indigestion from consuming an excess of tea, coffee, alcohol

and leading an irregular life. There is a sensation of fullness in the
stomach and nausea. The victim feels that voluntary vomiting will relieve
his discomfort. An oversensitive nature, frequent ineffectual desire for
passing stools and a tendency to catch colds are other pointers to this
medicine.

Puls 30 : Indigestion, especially of rich, fatty foods. There is pain in the

stomach, which shifts from one spot to another. A weeping nature and
thirstlessness are other features of this remedy.

Notes:

1. Discontinue the medicine when about fifty per cent improvement

occurs. Restart the medicine if symptoms worsen again or reappear
later.

Insomnia (Sleeplessness)
Mental tension, worry, excitement, lack of physical fatigue, adverse
weather, tight clothing, uncomfortable mattress and drinking tea/coffee all
can lead to insomnia and sleeplessness. Indigestion and gas-trouble can
also drive sleep away. Besides, sleep has a tendency to gradually diminish
with advancing age.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of the below-given medicines match with

most of your symptoms:

Arsenic 30 : Useful for sleeplessness from anxiety and fear (of death);
the person just cannot fall asleep from 12 to 2 a.m.; sleeplessness causes
undue prostration; the person likes to sleep in 'head-high (semi-
recumbent)' position.

Coffea 30: Useful to treat sleeplessness due to excitement, especially

from joyous ideas (from grief: Nat m); light sleep with almost constant
movement of the body, especially after 3 a.m.

Gelsemium 30 : For sleeplessness from physical exhaustion and/or

excessive thinking; the person is drowsy, yet cannot fall asleep. Other
general features include: a nervous, apprehensive nature, thirstlessness
and trembling of the body.
Nux vomica 30 : For sleeplessness from abuse of stimulants like tea,
coffee or alcohol; sleeplessness from lack of physical fatigue due to
sedentary life-style; cannot sleep after 3 a.m. until towards morning;
awakens feeling tired and wretched; other general features include:
highly irritable and sensitive nature; frequent, ineffectual desire for
stools; aversion to cold air/climate.

Involuntary Urination (Bedwetting; Eneuresis)

Infants commonly pass urine in bed during sleep. It becomes a matter of
concern, however, if an infant continues to do so even after attaining an
age of three years. In adults, involuntary urination may be caused by a
neurological problem.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these medicines match with most of

your symptoms:

Benzoic acid 30 : For bed-wetting of delicate infants or dribbling urine of

old men with enlarged prostate. The urine has a dark brown colour and a
very strong, repulsive odour.

Causticum 30: Involuntary urination when laughing, coughing, sneezing

or blowing the nose (compare Pulsatilla). Involuntary urination of infants
at night during first sleep (like Sepia). The problem improves on its own
in the rainy season but is worse in clear fine weather.

Equisetum 30 : Involuntary profuse urination in infants, under the

influence of a frightening dream. The child may also complain of a dull
pain in the bladder, which intensifies at the close of urination.

Nux voimca 30 : Dribbling of urine in young men from loss of control

over the bladder after consuming intoxicating drinks. There is frequent
urge to pass urine but only a few drops come out causing irritation and
pain. The problem is worse during winter and summer but improves
during the rains.

Pulsatilla 30 : Involuntary urination in sleep, while coughing or passing

flatus (gas) (compare Causticum); more likely to occur if the person has
consumed rich, fatty food the previous evening.

Sepia 30 : Involuntary urination of small girls during first sleep (compare

Causticum). The urine is offensive and stains clothes because of a red
sediment.
Silicea 30 : Involuntary urination especially during no-moon or full-moon
nights. Nocturnal eneuresis in children with worms in intestines.

Sulphur 30 : Involuntary passage of a large quantity of urine at night by

an untidy infant, who has a dislike for bathing. Eneuresis is precipitated
by weather-changes but generally disappears during summer.

Notes:

1. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty per cent

improvement is felt. Restart the medicine if sYmptoms worsen again
or reappear later.

Jaundice
Jaundice is a disorder caused by liver-dysfunction and characterised by a
yellow discoloration of the skin, nails, eyes, mucous membranes and
excretions.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of the below-given remedies match with

most of your symptoms:

Carduus marianus 30 : Diminished appetite, bitter taste in the mouth,

nausea, bilious vomiting, bright yellow hard stools and pain in the liver
region are features of this medicine.

Chelidonium majus 30 : Dirty yellow eyes; large, yellow tongue with

imprint of teeth; nausea relieved by drinking hot water; desire for hot
foods/drinks; dark yellow urine foaming like beer; dry, hard ball-like,
creamish stools; pain in the liver region (and back, near the lower tip of
scapula) are important features of this medicine.

Chionanthus 30 : Sickening, dull headache; yelloweyes; tongue with a

thick yellow fur; dark urine and light coloured pasty stools are features of
this medicine.

Myrica 30 : Severe jaundice with bronze-yellow skin, dull headache on

waking in the morning, nausea followed by vomiting of a thick tenacious
fluid and excessive gas which is constantly discharged when walking or
trying to evacuate bowels are the features of this medicine.

Notes:

1. Taking complete rest and consuming a high carbohydrate, low-fat

diet are very important.
2. Discontinue the medicine when about fifty per cent improvement
occurs. 89+

Kidney Stone (Renal Calculus); Renal Colic (Pain)

Calcium salts, struvite, uric acid or cystine may form stone/s in a kidney.
If very small, stones may pass into an ureter and out of the body
unnoticed; if too large to pass into an ureter, they remain in the kidney
causing mild pain in the loins and/or infection; if a medium-sized stone
enters the ureter, it gradually works its way down to the bladder causing
severe friction and thereby pain, called renal colic. This pain is wave-like
and of a stabbing nature, which starts when the stone moves and stops
when the stone stops moving.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these remedies match with most of

your symptoms:

Berberis vulgaris 30 : For left-sided renal colic, with severe cutting

pains starting from left kidney and then descending in a wave-like manner
into the left ureter, the urinary bladder and the urethra. There is a
bubbling, sore sensation in the kidney-region (loins). The urine is bloody,
with thick, jelly-like sediment. The patient prefers to rest because jerky
movements bring on or worsen pain.

Cantharis 30 : Violent, cutting or stabbing pain (in the bladder region),

which shoots off in different directions. There is a constant urge to pass
urine, but only a few drops pass out each time, causing such pain that the
patient screams. The urine is bloody, containing thick, jelly-like mucous.
Drinking coffee or cold water worsens pain but warm applications help.

Lycopodium 30 : For right-sided renal colic, with severe pain in the

region of the right kidney and the right ureter, at the beginning of
urination. There is no pain once the urination is over. Urine contains sand-
like, red sediment. Attacks of colic usually occur from 4 to 8 p.m.

Ocimum 30 : Again for right-sided renal colic with cramps in the loins.
Urine has musk-like odour and contains sand-like red sediment. Ocimum
should especially be considered for stones of uric-acid salts.

Pareira brava 30 : Constant urge to urinate. Urine flows out after great
straining and only when the person goes on his knees, pressing the head
against the floor. There is great pain in the bladder region, which goes
down into the thighs during efforts to urinate.

Sarsaparilla 30 : For right-sided renal colic, the pain shooting

downwards from the right kidney (like Lycopodium). There is severe,
unbearable pain at the conclusion of urination just as the urine ceases to
flow (like Berberis). The urine only dribbles while sitting but passes more
freely when standing. Urine contains sand-like, white sediment.

Notes:

1. Cultivate a habit of consuming a lot of water and other fluids. This

facilitates the working of kidneys. Cut down the intake of high-
calcium foods.
2. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty per cent
improvement has occurred. Restart the medicine if symptoms
worsen again or reappear later

Leucoderma (White Patches on the Skin)

Leucoderma is a disorder characterised by white patches on the skin due
to loss of skin-pigment (colour). Some cases of leucoderma have been
helped by homoeopathic medication.

Homeopathic Treatment

Any one medicine from Arsenic 30, Selenium 30 or Sepia 30 is selected on

the basis of general symptoms.

In absence of clear indications, Ars sulph flavum 30 can be tried over a

period of about three months. A diminition in the size of white patches or
their movement downward along the body can be considered as signs of
improvement

Leucorrhoea (White Sischarge)

Leucorrhoea is a common feminine disorder characterised by a discharge
of thick white fluid from the vagina. The discharge of only a small quantity
of fluid may be considered normal, but flow of excessive and foulsmelling
fluid is a sign of fungal infection of the vagina or the uterus.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these remedies match with most of

your symptoms:

Alumina 30 : Whitish-yellow leucorrhoea, only during the day time,

which is acrid (burning) and so copious as to run down to the heels. It
stops for some time after a cold bath but then starts again. Other
important features include a craving for indigestible things like chalk and
an obstinate constipation (even soft stools come out only after much
straining).
Borax 30 : Profuse, acrid, very hot leucorrhoea, as if warm water were
flowing out of the vagina. This white discharge continues throughout the
interval between two menes.

Calcarea carb 30 : Milky, acrid leucorrhoea just before the menses,

causing itching and burning of the genital organs. Other important
features of this remedy which is also useful to treat leucorrhoea of young
fat girls include - profuse, sour sweating, especially of the head during
sleep (wetting the pillow) and a craving for eggs and indigestible things
(like Alumina).

Hydrastis 30 : Foul-smelling, yellowish, thick, ropy leucorrhoea just after

the menses, causing burning and itching of the genital organs. The
leucorrhoea is so viscid sometimes, as to hang from the vagina in the
form of strings.

Kreosote 30 : Leucorrhoea between the menses (like Borax), which is

yellowish, foul-smelling and corrosive, and stains and stiffens the
underclothes like starch. Leucorrhoea is worse in the winter.

Pulsatilla 30 : Very thick (creamy) and acrid leucorrhoea which corrodes

the genital organs. The burning in the genitals improves with cold
applications. Other important features of this remedy include: mild,
weepy nature, desire for open air and thirstlessness.

Sepia 30 : Greenish yellow leucorrhoea just before the menses (like

Calcarea carb) which causes itching and soreness of the genital organs.
There is a bearing-down sensation in the pelvic region, forcing the lady to
keep the legs crossed, lest everything escape out of the vagina. The lady
is weepy (like Pulsatilla) but not mild; rather she is nervous, irritable and
indifferent (even to her familymembers).

Thuja 30 : Profuse, thick, greenish leucorrhoea with pain in the left ovary
and groin. Menses scanty and delayed. Vagina extremely sensitive,
preventing

Malaria
Malaria is a periodic fever, whose onset is heralded by a chill (shivering).

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these medicines match with most of

your symptoms:

Arsenic 30 : Malaria, with fever paroxysms either at mid-day (12-2

p.m.) or midnight (12-2 p.m.). There is weakness, malaise, headache and
vertigo. During the chill stage, the nails and the lips burn; but there is no
thirst. During the heat stage there is a thirst for hot water. The fever ends
with profuse, offensive perspiration. An important feature of this medicine
is mental restlessness and inexplicable fear (of death).

China (Cinchona) 30 : Malaria, which returns every seventh or

fourteenth day. Palpitations, hunger and headache are soon succeeded by
severe shivering. Any effort to control the chill (e.g., covering, consuming
hot drinks or using a hot-water bag), further increases shivering.
Thereafter, the fever sets in rendering the face red. This is followed by
profuse debilitating sweat.

Eupatorium perf 30 : Malaria, with paroxysms of fever in the morning

between 7 to 9 a.m. A bout starts with nausea and vomiting. Then there
is severe chill with pain in the back of the head and an insatiable thirst.
Further vomiting may occur before the temperature rises. During fever
there is sore, beaten-up feeling in the body. Finally occurs sweating,
which relieves all pains except the headache.

Natrum mur 30 : For chronic malaria, with paroxysms of fever occurring

in the morning (10-11a.m.). A bout starts with shivering, then comes
fever with severe left sided headache; finally, sweating occurs which
brings down the temperature. Progressive loss of weight, an intense
craving for salt and a 'mapped' tongue (having red patches) are other
pointers to this remedy.

Nux vomica 30 : For malaria in which the chill-stage dominates. During

chill, heat as well as sweating phases, the victim insists on keeping his
body well covered and keeping the windows closed. There is frequent,
ineffectual urging to pass stools.

Measles
Measles is a highly infective, viral disease (usually) of children, which
though bothersome is not serious. It sets in with symptoms of catarrh
e.g., sneezing, running nose, redness and watering of eyes, hoarse
cough, prostration and fever which may go quite high (103 - 104° F). At
this early stage, it is difficult to distinguish measles from an attack of cold
or influenza. However, in about 24 hours characteristic Koplikspots
(raised, white, salt-like spots) develop inside the mouth, confirming the
diagnosis. On the fourth day appear small, red rashes, first on the face,
then on the neck/body and finally on the legs; adjacent rashes may
coalesce to form raised blotches. With the appearance of rashes, the fever
declines. The rashes disappear in 4 - 5 days.

Homeopathic Treatment

Measles can easily be prevented through Homoeopathy. When an

epidemic of measles breaks out, give your child a dose of Morbillinum 200
in the morning and another in the evening. This homoeopathic medicine
confers upon your child, a reasonably strong immunity against measles.

However, if your child has already contracted an infection of measles (say

from your neighbourhood or from his school), give him that remedy from
the below-listed ones, whose symptoms match with those of your child:

Aconite 30 : Sudden onset of acute symptoms (described earlier)

accompanied by intense nervousness, restlessness and an inexplicable
fear, especially in the evening and at night. During fever, the child has an
acute thirst for large quantities of cold water (like Bryonia, but unlike
Gelsemium, Pulsatilla). He feels better in open air.

Arsenic 30 : Here again, the child exhibits acute restlessness, anguish

and fear (like Aconite). However, unlike Aconite, he dislikes cold drinks or
foods because they seem to worsen his problems. Moreover, he complains
of burning (in the eyes, the skin, etc.), which is relieved by warm
applications!

Belladonna 30 : Sudden onset of acute symptoms of measles (like

Aconite). The skin (of the face and the body) is dry, hot and red. Unlike
Aconite, there is an absence of thirst, especially during the febrile stage,
and a dislike for open air.

Bryonia 30 : Very slow, gradual onset of symptoms (like Gelsemium),

accompanied by dryness of the eyes, the mouth, the intestines, etc.).
Consequently, there is acute thirst for large quantities of cold water (like
Aconite). The child lies absolutely still on the bed because even the
slightest motion seems to aggravate his problems; even when coughing
he holds his chest to prevent it from moving.

Euphrasia 30 : Suitable during the early (catarrhal) stages of the disease

if these symptoms are present: profuse watering from the eyes, causing
burning and redness of eyes; however, profuse nasal discharge is bland
(non-burning); cough is present only during the day-time (especially in
the evening) but is absent at night.

Ferrum phos 30 : Slow, gradual onset of symptoms. Fever intensifies at

night or in the early morning (4 - 6 a.m.). There is throbbing headache
which is relieved by cold applications.

Gelsemium 30: Very slow, gradual onset of symptoms (like Bryonia,

Ferrum phos) of measles, accompanied by dullness of the mind,
drowsiness and dizziness. There is trembling of the limbs and the whole
body. Another characteristic feature is complete absence of thirst (like
Pulsatilla).
Pulsatilla 30 : This remedy, perhaps, the most important medicine for
measles, is distinguished by a weeping disposition, thirstlessness (like
Gelsemium) and an internal feeling of chilliness (yet the child dislikes
covering and wants to be in open air).

Menopause (Cessation of Menses)

Menopause marks the end of woman's reproductive life. This normal
phenomenon usually occurs in late forties or early fifties but may occur
much earlier or later.

For most women, this transition from fertile to infertile life is smooth and
uneventful. However, a few women suffer from distressing symptoms like
hot flushes causing warmth in the face and ears, sweating, undue fatigue,
headaches and inexplicable mood-changes.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these remedies match with most of

your symptoms:

Aconite 30 : Sudden, violent bursts of heat in the face with restlessness,

severe anxiety and fear (of death); the vagina is dry, hot and sensitive;
unquenchable thirst for large quantities of cold water; a desire to be in
open air.

Amyl nitrite 30: Surging of blood to the head and the face causing
anxiety, palpitations, throbbing headache and a desire for open air,
followed by profuse, hot perspiration and exhaustion; the lady keeps
away from mental or physical exertion and frequently stretches her limbs.

Lachesis 30 : Chills at night and flushes of heat in the face on awakening

in the morning; the face turns pale and blue, and there is. burning heat in
the top of the head followed by hot perspiration. The lady loosens clothes
and desires fanning but slowly and from a distance. Other features
include-trembling of the whole body, sensation of a ball in the genital
organs and a talkative, jealous suspicious disposition.

Pulsatilla 30 : Early stages of menopause characterised by severe

irregularities of menstrual bleeding accompanied by a weeping
disposition, chilliness inside the body and wandering pains in the head.
There is thirstlessness and an acute craving for open air (like Aconite,
Amyl).

Sanguinaria 30 : Periodic headache (returning every seventh day) after

menopause, which begins at the back of the head, ascends to the top of
the head and settles over the right eye; headache is relieved by sleep;
circumscribed redness of the cheeks and burning in palms and soles.
Sepia 30 : Flushes of heat, especially in the morning and in the evening
accompanied by bursting headache relieved by external pressure; a
bearing-down sensation in the pelvic region forcing the lady to keep the
legs crossed lest everything escape out of the vagina; sad, weeping and
indifferent (even to family members).

Notes:

1. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty per cent

improvement occurs. Restart the medicine if symptoms worsen
again or reappear.

Morning Sickness (Vomiting During Pregnancy)

Occasional slight vomiting in the morning is a common problem of early
pregnancy. This does no harm and subsides on its own by the end of the
third month of pregnancy. Sometimes, however, it extends even into the
second trimester of pregnancy and/or assumes a severer form, thereby
undermining health.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these remedies match with most of

your symptoms:

Antimonium crudum 30 : Nausea in the morning with giddiness; a

sensation of abnormal fullness in the stomach after eating; frequent
(almost constant) belching; thick, white coating of the tongue; alternate
constipation and diarrhea (like Nux vomica); aversion to cold bathing.

Arsenic 30 : Excessive nausea and vomiting, immediately after eating or

drinking, leading to great exhaustion and causing undue fear (of death);
burning pain in the stomach which becomes worse with cold drinks/food
but is relieved by hot drinks.

Cocculus 30 : Vertigo from least motion, causing nausea and vomiting

and forcing the lady to lie down; a sensation of weakness and hollowness
in the abdomen with acute lethargy; problems get worse if proper sleep is
not obtained.

Ipecacuanha 30 : Persistent nausea, which is not relieved even after

vomiting; thirstlessness; clean tongue.

Nux vomica 30 : Nausea and stone-like pressure in the stomach after

eating, leading the lady to believe that she will feel better if she vomits;
desire for stimulants like tea and coffee; frequent ineffectual desire for
passing stools and urine; great tendency to catch cold, compelling the
person to keep doors and windows closed and cover up even in summer.
Sepia 30: Nausea from smell or sight of fight (like Arsenic), Especially in
the morning; a sensation of emptiness in the stomach which is relived by
eating; a bearing-down sensation in the pelvic region, forcing the lady to
keep the legs crossed.

Notes:

1. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty percent

improvement occurs. Restart the medicine if symptoms worsen
again or reappear.

Mumps
Mumps is a disease of children and young adults, characterised by a hard
swelling over one or both cheeks due to a viral infection of the parotid
(salivary) glands, accompanied by pain and fever.

Homeopathic Treatment

Mumps can be prevented with ease, through Homoeopathy. If cases of

mumps are reported in your city or seen in your neighbourhood (or in
your child's school), immediately give your child a dose of Parotidinum
200 on three successive days, to confer upon him a reasonable immunity.

However, if your child has already contracted mumps, give him that
remedy from the below-listed ones, whose symptoms match with those of
your child:

Arsenic 30: Burning pain in the affected cheek, which is better by warm
/ hot applications! Another distinguishing feature is undue fear (of death)
causing severe anguish and restlessness.

Belladonna 30 : Sudden, acute attack of mumps, affecting the right

cheek, which looks red and feels hot. Though there is high fever, the child
is not thirsty (like pulsatilla).

Mercurius sol 30 : Hard swelling of the affected cheek with stiffness of

the jaw and difficult swallowing; offensive breath; profuse offensive
perspiration. The tongue is moist (due to excess saliva), thick and flabby
and shows imprint of teeth (like Rhus tox). There is sweetish (or bitter)
and metallic taste in the mouth and acute thirst for large quantities of
cold water.

Pulsatilla 30 : Severe pain in the affected cheek changing places from

time to time (wandering pain) accompanied by acute chilliness (yet
aversion to cover and yearning for open air). The patient, usually a girl,
has a mild, weeping nature. The tongue is dry yet there is no thirst. Pain
is relieved by lying on the affected side (cheek) and by cold applications.
On the other hand, warm or hot compresses worsen the pain.

Rhus tox 30 : Severe soreness (a beaten-up feeling) in the affected

cheek causing restlessness (like Arsenic), There is bitter taste in the
mouth. The tongue, which has a darkred tip, shows imprint of teeth (like
Mercurius). Soreness in the cheek lessens on applying warmth or eating
warm / hot foods (like Arsenic but unlike Pulsatilla). There is great
aversion to open air (unlike Pulsatilla).

Nausea or Vomiting
Check if most symptoms of any of these medicines match with most of
your symptoms:

Arsenic 30 : Nausea and vomiting from foodpoisoning, with pressure and

burning pain in the pit of the stomach. The victim cannot bear the smell
or sight of food. If anything is consumed, it is soon vomited in the form of
a dark, offensive fluid. Severe prostration and fear of death are important
features of this medicine.

Ipecac 30 : Almost constant nausea, which is not relieved by vomiting.

Vomiting of whitish or greenish, jellylike mucous. Thirstlessness is an
important pointer to this remedy.

Nux v 30 : Nausea after eating, especially in the morning, the victim

thinking he will feel better if vomiting occurs. The person keeps away
from food in spite of hunger. An oversensitive nature and frequent
ineffectual desire to pass stools are other features of this medicine.

Phos 30 : Nausea with burning and an 'all-gone' sensation in the

stomach. The victim craves and consumes cold foods/drinks which help
him temporarily. However, as soon as the food gets hot in the stomach, it
is vomited out. Vomitus may even contain bright red blood.

Notes:

1. Discontinue the medicine when about fifty percent improvement has

occurred. Restart the medicine if symptoms worsen again or
reappear later.

Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is the commonest form of arthritis caused by a gradual,
progressive degeneration of the jointcartilage (pad) with advancing age.

It is characterised by
1. Pain and stiffness in the affected joint (usually a joint of the lower
limb) which increase very gradually over the years,
2. Absence of any real swelling, redness or warmth in the affected
joint,
3. Presence of a typical crackling noise (called crepitus) on moving the
joint and
4. Formation of new bone (in the form of projections called
osteophytes) along the joint-margin.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these remedies match with most of

your symptoms:

Arnica 30 : Osteoarthritis following an injury to (e.g., a fracture of) a

joint. Apart from pain and stiffness, there is a sore, beaten-up feeling in
the joint. Everything on which the affected joint lies, seems too hard.
Joint-pains are worse from touch (massage) or heat (unlike Rhus tox).
Resting the affected joint does not relieve pain.

Bryonia 30 : Joint-pain which gets worse from least motion or exertion

but improves with absolute rest (compare Rhus tox). Applying heat to the
joint or lying on it helps (compare Arnica). Pressing, massaging or
bandaging the joint also helps.

Calc phos 30 : Osteoarthritis in lean, emaciated persons. Apart from pain

and stiffness, there is a sensation of numbness and crawling in the
affected joint. Symptoms are worse in damp, cold weather but better in,
hot, dry weather.

Causticum 30 : Chronic osteoarthritis with jointdeformities from

contractures of muscles. Pain is worse in clear fine weather but lessens in
the monsoon.

Rhus tox 30 : Osteoarthritis characterised by stiffness, pain and a feeling

of soreness in the affected joint (compare Arnica). Pain and stiffness are
worse after rest (inactivity) but gradually diminish on walking around
(Unlike Bryonia). Joint-problems are worse in rainy weather but better by
application of dry heat.

Notes:

1. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty per cent

improvement has occurred. Restart the medicine if symptoms
worsen again or reappear later.

at rest (when not walking). The victim feels he has treaded on a pebble.
The pain is worse from 4 to 8 p.m. or at night and from warm/hot
applications. It improves somewhat on walking around.

Notes:

1. Wear soft (padded) slippers, sandals or shoes (even in the house).

Painful Menstruation (Dysmenorrhoea)

Menstrual disgrders are quite common. However, out of a feeling of
shame and embarrassment, many women do not disclose their problems
and continue to suffer silently.

Dysmenorrhoea is characterised by pain in the abdomen, back, thighs and

breasts during the days of menstrual flow. Moreover, there may be
muscular cramps, headaches, general lassitude and mental irritability. If
similar but less severe symptoms appear immediately before the menses,
the condition is called pre-menstrual syndrome.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these medicines match with most of

your symptoms:

Belladonna 30 : Sudden, acute pain in the abdomen, groins, thighs and

breasts, coming in spurts (i.e., it starts suddenly and stops suddenly);
backache so severe, it seems the back will break; strong bearing-down
sensation in the lower abdomen making the lady believe that everything
would escape through the vulva. The menstrual bleeding occurs too early,
is quite profuse and offensive, and the blood is bright red.

menstrual blood is coagulated and foulsmelling. All disorders, physical and
mental, become worse during the periods and there is a sensation of
black cloud enveloping the head.

Mag phos 6x : Severe, stabbing, cramping pain in the abdomen, just

before menses, which changes places (like Pulsatilla). The pain gets worse
from cold bathing or work but is relieved by lying on the right side or by
bending double and by warm applications. An important feature is that
the pains disappear as soon as bleeding appears.

Pulsatilla 30 : There is a history of menstrual problems ever since

puberty. Violent, shifting (like Cimicifuga) pain during periods, causing a
stone-like heaviness in the abdomen. Pains are accompanied by a feeling
of internal chilliness; yet the lady craves open air. The abdominal pain is
better by pressure and cold applications. The periods are late and the
bleeding is scanty. Other important features include: weeping nature,
thirstlessness (like Belladonna) and, sometimes, nausea-vomiting or
diarrhoea during periods.

Sepia 30 : Painful periods accompanied by a sensation of fullness or a

ball in the pelvic organs; there is a strong bearing-down sensation,
forcing the lady to keep the legs crossed, lest anything escape out of the
vulva (like Belladonna). Pain in the abdomen is better from exercise
(work), pressure, warm/hot applications and cold bathing. An important
feature of this medicine is 'indifferent nature. The lady is indifferent to
everything - even to her beloved family members.

Xanthoxylum 30 : Menses too early, with pain in the back and lower
abdomen, extending down the left thigh. The discharged blood is thick
and almost black.

Notes:

end.

Infantile Paralysis (Poliomyelitis)

Paralysis in old age is, usually, the result of either a rupture or a blockage
of one or more blood-vessels of the brain.

Polio is, usually, a childhood problem which is caused by an invasion of

specific viruses in the spinal cord.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of the below-given medicines match with

most of your symptoms :

Aconite 30 : Sudden attack of paralysis accompanied by extreme

the affected parts. In a severe attack, there may be semi-consciousness
or violent delirium.

Causticum 30 : Paralysis of single parts (e.g., face, a limb, vocal cords

etc.) usually of the right side Dike Belladonna). However, unlike
Belladonna, the paralysis develops gradually. There is great rawness and
soreness of the affected part with muscle-twitching.

Gelsemium 30 : Gradual, wide-spread paralysis with trembling of the

affected part. Other general features include dullness, drowsiness,
dizziness and thirstlessness.

parts; extensor muscles of the limbs are affected more, so that the victim
suffers from hand-drop and / or foot-drop. Other general features include:
excessive depression, ringing in the ears and distinct blue lines near gum-
margins.

Notes:

1. Polio is best prevented, through proper immunization during

childhood. In case of a polio epidemic, few doses of a homoeopathic
medicine Lathyrus 30 confer upon the child, a reasonable immunity

Piles (Haemorrhoids)
Piles is a varicosed condition of the veins of the anus. These produce a lot
of pain and, sometimes, bleed profusely.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these medicines match with most of

your symptoms:

Aesculus 30 : Rectum feels sore, as if full of small sticks. Stools are hard
and dry and, therefore, difficult to evacuate. After the stools, there is

intense hunger at 11 a.m., a dislike for bathing and a craving for sweets
are other features of this medicine.
Notes:

1. If the selected medicine does not help, consult a competent

homoeopathic doctor.
2. Avoid constipation. Do not strain when passing stools.

Pimples
Pimples are small boils affecting the skin of the face of adolescent girls /
boys, perhaps caused by hormonal changes.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of the below-given medicines match with

most of your symptoms:

Ant tart 30 : Pimples that leave behind bluish-red marks. Constant

sleepiness and a craving for apples and sour foods are other features of
this medicine. Check if most symptoms of any of the below-given
medicines match with most of your symptoms:

Calc sul 30 : Pimples with yellowish scabs. If burst open, the resultant
wound does not heal rapidly. Burning and itching of soles is another
feature.

perspiration are other features of this medicine.

Kali brom 30 : Pimples with diminished sensations of facial skin.

Depression of spirits, sadness and sleeplessness are other features of this
medicine.

4 times a day. Facial steam once or twice a week is also helpful.
Avoid facial creams and cosmetics.
2. Consume a well-balanced diet having an abundance of sour-sweet
(citrus) fruits. Cut down the intake of salt and refined flour (maida).

Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis is chronic, inflammatory, destructive and deforming
variety of arthritis that affects many joints (especially the small joints of
the fingers and the toes) at the same time.
Unlike osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis victimises young persons,
especially females.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these remedies match with most of

your symptoms:

Actea spicata 30 : Rheumatoid arthritis affecting small joints (of

fingers/toes, wrists, ankles). Even mild exertion causes an increase in the
pain and swelling.

Bryonia 30 : Rheumatism with red, swollen and hot joints which are
exceedingly painful. Joint-pains get aggravated with slightest motion,
forcing the patient to keep still. Hot weather, warm room, warm
foods/drinks also worsen joint-pains. The person feels better by absolute
rest, firmly bandaging the joint, pressing (massaging) the joint or by lying
on the affected joint.

Calc phos 30 : Besides pain and stiffness, there is a sensation of

numbness and crawling in the affected joints. Symptoms are worse in
damp, cold weather but better in hot, dry weather.

Causticum 30 : Advanced rheumatoid arthritis with deformities of the

fingers. Joint-problems are worse in clear, fine weather but better in
damp, wet weather.

Colchicum 30 : Rheumatoid arthritis that moves from one joint to

another (compare Pulsatilla). Pain is so severe that the patient can't bear
even light touch. Joint-pains are worse by slightest motion (like Bryonia),
at night and in cold, damp weather, but better by rest and warmth (dry
heat).

Pulsatilla 30 : Rheumatoid arthritis that moves from one joint to another

(like Colchicum). Pain, accompanied by severe chilliness, is aggravated by
heat-treatment and rest (unlike Colchicum) but ameliorated by cold
applications, pressure (massage), lying on the affected joint and gentle
continued motion.

Rhododendron 30 : Rheumatoid arthritis characterised by acute

inflammatory swelling of joints, wandering from one joint to another (like
Colchicum, Pulsatilla). Joint-pains are worse by rest and from changes in
weather but better by motion and application of dry heat.

Rhus tox 30 : Rheumatoid arthritis characterised by stiffness, pain and a

feeling of soreness in the affected joints. Pain and stiffness are worse
after rest (inactivity) but gradually diminish on moving the joints.
Symptoms are worse in rainy weather but improve by application of dry
heat.

Ruta 30 : For sore, beaten up feeling in the affected joints, giving rise to
restlessness (like Rhus tox). Joint-pains are worse from rest but better by
gentle movements (not exertion); warm applications and massage also
help in relieving pains.

Summary of indications:

Joint-pains and stiffness:

• Better by rest: Actea spicata, Bryonia, Colchicum

• Better by movements: Pulsatilla, Rhododendron, Rhus tox, Ruta
• Better by heat treatment: Calc phos, Colchicum, Rhododendron,
Rhus tox, Ruta
• Better by cold applications: Pulsatilla
• Better by massage / pressure: Bryonia, Pulsatilla, Ruta

Notes:

1. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty percent

improvement has occurred. Restart the medicine if symptoms
worsen again or reappear later.

Shoulder Joint Pain/Stiffness; Frozen Shoulder

Shoulder ailments are quite common. Frozen shoulder (also called Peri-
arthritis of the shoulder) is an illunderstood disorder characterised by an
uniform limitation of all shoulder-movements.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these remedies closely match with

most of your symptoms:

Bryonia 30 : Severe pain, made worse by slightest motion, compelling

the patient to keep still. Application of heat also worsens the pain.
Absolute rest, gentle massage and lying on the affected shoulder help to
relieve pain.

Chelidonium 30 : Pain in the right shoulder spreading to right upper

back. Pain is worse from movement of the shoulder and on touching but
better from pressure (massage).

Ferrum met: For pain in left shoulder, making it difficult for the victim to
raise the arm. Pain gets worse from rest but is relieved by gently moving
about the arm.
Rhus tox 30 : There is a feeling of stiffness, soreness and pain in the
shoulder which is worse after rest (inactivity) but gradually diminishes on
moving the shoulder or applying dry heat.

Sanguinaria 30 : For right-sided frozen shoulder accompanied by

burning in palms and soles. Pain is worse from movement of the shoulder
and better by rest and sleep.

Syphilinum 30 : Frozen shoulder, with stiffness and pain that spreads

into the arm-bone. Pain is especially troublesome during the night
(preventing sleep). It increases from heat-treatment but decreases on
pouring cold water.

Notes:

1. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty per cent

improvement has occurred. Restart the medicine if symptoms
worsen again or reappear later.

Sinusitis
Sinuses are air-filled cavities present in the skull-bone, communicating
with the nose through tiny openings. Therefore, a nasal infection
sometimes spreads to one or more sinuses causing a swelling of their
inner surfaces. Symptoms of sinusitis include throbbing pain in the
forehead or cheeks which gets worse on stooping, moving, the head or
coughing and, sometimes, fever.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these medicines match with most of

your symptoms:

Hepar sulph 30 : Right-sided frontal sinusitis causing sharp, splinter-like

pain in the forehead and the root of the nose; the pain gets worse from
cold air or consuming cold foods/drinks; in general the person is chilly
(requiring warm clothes even in summer) and overly sensitive to the
environment (noise, touch, light, etc.).

Kali bich 30 : Sinusitis in hot weather (summer), causing wandering pain

in the forehead, in a spot that can be covered by the tip of the finger;
very tough, greenish yellow string-like discharge from the nose; pain is
worse in the morning or from noise but diminishes by inhaling steam or
lying down.

Kali iod 30: Chronic sinusitis causing throbbing pain and burning in the
nose and the sinuses; the pain is Worse' at night or from steam-inhalation
but diminishes on moving in open air; profuse, watery and hot discharge
from the nose.

Mercurius sol 30 : Right-sided sinusitis associated with earache,

toothache and vertigo which increases on lying on the back; the pain is
not relieved by inhaling steam; feeling of a band around the head; there
is acrid, thick, greenish yellow, pus-like discharge from the nose, more at
night. Intense thirst for large amounts of cold water and profuse,
offensive perspiration confirm the choice of Mercurius.

Pulsatilla 30 : Sinusitis, with pain that shifts from one part of head to
another (like Kali bich); the pain gets worse from steam-inhalation but is
relieved by pressure, cold applications or moving in open air; profuse
thick, greenish yellow, bland discharge from the nose. A mild, weeping
nature and thirstlessness confirm the choice of Pulsatilla.

Silicia 30 : Headache starts from the back of the head and settles above
the right eye (right frontal sinusitis); the pain is worse from movements
(stooping), noise and cold air but is relieved by pressure (tying a tight
band around the head) and urination; great chilliness (like Hapar sulph)
so that the person wraps himself with warm clothes even in summer.

Notes:

1. Discontinue the selected medicine as soon as about fifty per cent

improvement occurs. Restart the medicine if symptoms worsen
again or reappear.

Sore Throat (Pharyngitis)

A swollen, painful throat, that renders swallowing difficult is called sore
throat:

Aconite 30 : Sudden, severe pharyngitis with severe pain and high fever.
The victim is extremely anxious, fears death and wants the doctor to be
summoned immediately. There is an almost unquenchable thirst for large
quantities of cold water.

Apis 30 : Acute pharyngitis, the throat looking fiery red, with burning,
stinging pain. There is such sensitivity to touch that the victim can't
tolerate clothes around the neck. Thirstlessness is an important feature.

Baryta carb 30 : Sore throat from consumption of cold drinks. There is a

sensation of plug in the throat. The foodpipe contracts as soon as food
enters, causing gagging and chocking. A tendency to catch colds easily is
a feature of this medicine.
Belladonna 30 : Sudden, acute pharyngitis with severe burning pain in
the throat and high fever. There is a constant desire to swallow (saliva).
There is a rush of blood to the head, causing flushed face and throbbing
carotids.

Mere sol 30 : Severe pharyngitis, the throat looking bluish red. The
tongue is large and moist and shows an imprint of teeth. Profuse,
offensive perspiration, trembling of the body and extreme thirst for large
quantities of cold water indicate this medicine.

Phytolacca : Severe pharyngitis with dark-red, ashcoloured appearance

of this throat. Burning pain in the throat as if from coal. The pain shoots
into the ears on trying to swallow. The pain is worse on taking hot fluids
but better when cold drinks are consumed.

Notes:

1. Salt-water gargling also helps.

2. Discontinue the medicine when about fifty percent improvement
occurs.

Sprained Joint
Sudden twists and turns may wrench, disrupt or damage the ligaments
and tendons around a joint causing 'joint sprain'. This is followed by
pouring (effusion) of a fluid into the joint, swelling and pain. The most
common sprains are those of the ankle, the wrist, the fingers and the
knee.

Since shock is always present when a sprain occurs, give a dose of Arnica
200 immediately. Arnica controls shock as well as bleeding in the tissues,
and may be all that is needed. If, however, after a day or so improvement
seems to Come to a standstill, Ruta graveolens 30 will help. Ruta, given
four times a day, beneficially acts on wrenched and torn ligaments and
promotes healing.

If Ruta does not relieve pain and swelling within twenty-four hours, a
deeper-acting remedy Symphytum 30 can be tried. Symphytum, made
from a plant comfrey, was called 'knit-bone' by ancient physicians.

On the other hand, if pain and stiffness are worse after a period of rest
(i.e., when beginning to move) and better after some activity, Rhus tox 30
given every six to eight hours will help.

Other homoeopathic remedies worth considering when treating joint-

sprains are
Bryonia 30, when the pain is worse on least movement and better by
absolute rest.

Ledum 30, when there is much swelling, and the affected joint is numb
and cold, yet feels better with cold applications.

As usual, discontinue the medicine as soon as considerable relief has been

obtained. Prolonged continuation of the remedy defeats the purpose, and
may even cause a temporary worsening of symptoms as the person starts
'proving' the given remedy.

Eye Stye or Styes

A eye stye is a boil affecting the root of an eye-lash. It is characterised by
a hard swelling at the lid-margin which is tumour-like and painful.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of the below-given remedies match with

most of your symptoms:

Pulsatilla 30 : An excellent remedy for styes, especially affecting the

upper eye-lid, with burning and itching. There may be a discharge of
profuse thick, yellowish mucous from the eye. A weeping nature and
thirstlessness are other features of this medicine.

Silicea 30 : A remedy which can hasten the resolution of the stye, by

bursting it open. A feeling of chill (making the person wear warm clothes
even in summer), obstinate constipation and a desire for cold
foods/drinks are other pointers to this remedy.

Staphisagria 30 : For recurrent styes that come one after another and
leave behind hard nodes. This remedy can be tried if Pulsatilla fails.

Sul 30 : A good medicine to start the, treatment of a person with

recurrent styes and an unhealthy skin. There is heat and burning in the
eyes. A disinclination to stand and acute, unbearable hunger at 11 a.m.
are other features of this remedy.

Notes:

1. Be quite particular about eye-hygiene

Sunstroke
Prolonged exposure to the rays of a hot, summer sun may cause a heat-
stroke. The self-cooling mechanism of the body (through evaporation of
sweat from the skin) fails, giving rise to very high fever, hot and dry skin
and rapid, bounding pulse. The victim is dizzy, nauseated, weak and,
generally, has a headache. If not treated in time, vomiting, delirium,
convulsions or unconsciousness may occur.

Even more important than homoeopathic remedies are the following first-
aid measures:

1. Move the victim into shade.

2. Cool the victim as quickly as possible by Pouring liberal amounts of
cool water over the body, Alternatively, place a cold compress on
the person's head and wrap a cold wet sheet around the body.
3. If the patient is conscious, give cool drinks to be sipped slowly.

Glonoine 30 is the homoeopathic remedy of choice for sunstroke. Give a

dose every fifteen minutes until patient improves.

If the victim has not responded positively to cold applications mentioned

above, Glonoine may be replaced by Belladona 30, a dose to be given
every fifteen minutes, till improvement is seen.

Tonsillitis
Tonsils are small masses of lymphoid tissues, one lying on either side of
the back of the mouth. They work like guards intercepting all micro-
organisms that happen to enter the nose or the mouth and preventing
them from going deeper into the body. In turn, the tonsils become
inflamed (termed tonsillitis) causing pain in the throat, difficulty in
swallowing and sometimes fever.

Aconite 30 : Sudden, acute attack of tonsillitis from exposure to dry cold

air; dry, burning, constricted feeling in the throat with violent cough
causing restlessness, anxiety and fear (of death); face and neck dry, red
and hot; unquenchable thirst for large quantities of cold water.

Apis 30 : Burning, stinging pain in the throat with fever, worse at 3 p.m.,
tongue fiery red; uvula and tonsils look puffy and oedematous, causing
suffocation; cannot bear tight clothing around the neck; weeping
disposition, thirstlessness, a craving for cold milk and swelling on lower
eye-lids confirm the choice of Apis.

Baryta carb 30 : Tonsillitis of a child who is backward - physically and

mentally; almost perennial colds; sensation of a plug in the throat; no
fever.

Belladonna 30 : Sudden, violent attack of tonsillitis causing severe,

throbbing pain in the throat and fever, Worse at 3 p.m., the mouth and
the tongue are dry and hot yet there is no thirst; tonsils (especially the
right) appear dark red; liquids are more difficult to swallow than solids
(like Lachesis); the patient dislikes open air, wants to remain in a warm
room and likes the neck to be covered with warm clothes.

Hepar sulph 30 : Painful, yellow, pus-laden tonsils causing splinter-like

sensation in the throat, better from gargling with hot water; smell from
the mouth very foul like that of old cheese; in general, the child is very
chilly (requiring warm clothes even in summer) and oversensitive.

Lachesis 30 : Severe, chronic left-sided tonsillitis in a thin, anaemic

child; pain, fever and hot perspiration especially at night (during sleep)
and in the morning (on awakening); pain, which radiates into the left ear,
is more when swallowing liquids than while swallowing solids; pain gets
worse from hot gargles or drinks but better with cold applications/drinks;
the tongue is black and trembling, and, the tonsils look blue-purple;
sensation of ball in the throatcan't bear tight clothes around the neck (like
Apis).

Mercurius sol 30 : Right-sided tonsillitis with pain and fever worse at

night; constant desire to swallow (saliva); the tongue is thick and moist,
showing imprint of teeth; intense thirst for large quantities of cold water;
gargling with hot water worsens pain (like Lachesis); the body trembles
and there is profuse, offensive perspiration.

Phytolacca 30 : Right-sided tonsillitis with electric shock-like, flying

pains and burning in the throat as if from coal or red-hot iron; pain, which
shoots into the right ear while swallowing, is worse from hot water
gargling but better from cold drinks (like Lachesis, Mercurius); the tonsils
are swollen and ulcerated, and the uvula greatly enlarged.

Notes:

1. Discontinue the medicine as soon as about fifty per cent

improvement occurs. Restart the medicine if symptoms worsen
again or reappear.

Toothache
Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of these medicines match with most of

your symptoms:

Belladonna 30 : Sudden, severe, right-sided toothache with a surge of

blood to the face. The pain has a burning and throbbing character.
Chamomilla 30 : Unbearable toothache with numbness of the affected
jaw. The pain gets worse on eating anything hot or from warm-
applications.

Coffea 30 : Severe toothache with nervous agitation, preventing sleep.

The tooth pain lessens temporarily on holding ice in the mouth.

Mercurius sol 30 : Loose and painful teeth with spongy, bleeding gums.
There is sweetish taste in the mouth with excessive saliva. The tongue is
thick and moist, and shows imprint of teeth. Hot foods / applications
worsen tooth-pain. There is thirst for large quantities of cold water.

Plantago Q : Severe toothache which radiates to the ear or the eye. The
pain lessens while eating.

Travel-Sickness; Vertigo (Giddiness)

Vertigo can be defined as a feeling of rotation or movement of one's self
or of the surroundings.

Some people suffer from vertigo, with nausea and vomiting, while
travelling by a ship or a vehicle. This is called travel-sickness. Other
causes of giddiness include: ear-disease, head injury, sudden changes in
blood-pressure or a disturbance of blood-supply to the brain.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of the below-given remedies match with

most of your symptoms:

Cocculus 30 : Vertigo while travelling by a vehicle or a ship; a sensation

of emptiness and pain in the back of the head - can't lie on the back;
nausea and vomiting with a metallic taste in the mouth; trembling of head
and the limbs.

Nux vomica 30 : Vertigo, especially when travelling In strong sun-shine;

brain feels turning around in circles; pain in the front of the head with a
desire to press it against something; nausea in the morning; vomiting
with much retching - stomach region very sensitive to pressure; frequent
ineffectual desire for stools.

Petroleum 30 : Vertigo, which is better lying down but worse on rising;

the person feels a cold breeze blowing on the head; the back of the head
feels heavy, as if filled with lead; headache, which is better by pressing
upon the temples (sides); nausea with accumulation of water in the
mouth.
Tabacum 30 : Vertigo while travelling, forcing the person to keep the
eyes closed; constant nausea, with a feeling of sinking in the pit of the
stomach; sensation of a band around the head; vomiting of (feaces-like)
foul smelling substance.

Notes:

1. If you have to travel frequently and if you suffer from vertigo,

nausea or vomiting every time, take a dose of the selected medicine
about half an hour before you step out of the house next time. This
will, almost certainly, act as a preventive. However, if symptoms still
crop up after commencing the journey, take a dose every fifteen
minutes till the attack has been aborted

Typhoid
Typhoid is a serious, unremittent fever which runs a prolonged course
distinguished by high temperature, 'peasoup' stools and skin rashes which
appear 7-8 days after the onset.

Homeopathic Treatment

Check if most symptoms of any of the below-given medicines match with

most of your symptoms:

Arnica 30 : Fever, with a sore, bruised feeling in the entire body, causing
restlessness. Everything on which the patient lies feels too hard.

Arsenic 30: Typhoid with burning in the body, severe prostration and loss
of appetite (the victim can't even bear the smell or sight of food). There is
great anguish in the mind, the person feeling that death is imminent.

Baptisia 30 : Perhaps the best remedy for typhoid, provided the

symptoms match. High fever with nervousness and aching pain in the
body. Even a soft bed feels too hard to the patient. All the discharges
(breath, sweat, urine, stools, etc.) are horribly offensive. The tongue and
the mouth show cracks and ulcers.

Rhus tox 30 : Diarrhoea precedes the onset of fever, which is gradual to

rise. There is a sore, bruised feeling in the body. Everything on which the
patient lies feels too hard, causing restlessness. The tongue is cracked
and shows a triangular red tip.

Worms in the Intestines (Helminthiasis)

Due to contaminated water and foods, worm infestation is a common
problem of childhood.
Homeopathic Treatment

Like any other disease, worm infestation, too, is better prevented than
treated. This is relatively easy if drinking water is boiled and all outside
eatables are avoided.

If your child does have a worm-problem, consider the below-listed

remedies and select the one whose symptoms seem matching.

Calcarea carb 30 : Fat, flabby child with a ravenous appetite; craving for
indigestible things (like chalk, coal, pencils) and eggs; aversion to meat
and milk; crawling and constriction in rectum and anus; habitual
constipation; excessive, sour sweating; head sweats profusely during
sleep, wetting the pillow.

Cina 30 : Cina is prepared from 'worm seeds'. Although Homoeopathy

does not believe in specific remedies, Cina is preeminently a worm
remedy as it causes all symptoms which characterise helminthiasis:
grinding of teeth, screaming during sleep, constant digging of nose,
involuntary urination in sleep, pain in abdomen and mental irritability.
Other symptoms include desire for sweets and various indigestfble things
(like Calcarea carb), lying on the abdomen (or the knee-elbow position) in
sleep and clean tongue.

Sabadilla 30 : Nervous, timid child with a desire for sweets and hot
foods and a lack of thirst. The skin is dry and the nails are thickened.

Spigelia 30 : Demerara pink root, a grass from which this medicine is

prepared was used in olden days to expel worms. Dr Hahnemann, who
'proved' this remedy on healthy volunteers named it Spigelia anthelmic.
Symptoms include itching and crawling in the rectum; frequent ineffectual
urging to stool; pain in the navel which is worse from touch or
movements but relieved by lying on the right side with head high.

Teucrium 30 : Itching and crawling in the anus, especially after a stool;

irritation and restlessness in the evening and at night in bed- the child
suddenly wakes up at night, looking frightened.

HOMEOPATHIC Treatment & Medicines for URINARY TRACT

INFECTION, ENEURESIS, PYLONEPHRITIS, NEPHRITIS, RENAL
STONES

#Cantharis. [Canth]
Cantharis symptoms are usually the first ones inquired after when a case of urinary
difficulty presents itself. Its symptoms are clear cut, and should not be confounded with
those of any other remedy. There is a persistent and violent urging to urinate, with great
tenesmus; the urine is passed only in drops and seems like molten lead passing through
the urethra, so intense is the burning.
There is with this, usually an aching in the small of the back. It is often indicated in
acute cystitis, gravel and urethritis, the great keynotes being the burning and the
tenesmus of the bladder; haematuria also calls for Cantharis under certain conditions.
Baehr doubts that Cantharis is ever suitable to the chronic form of cystitis.

#Mercurius corrosivus [Merc-c]

Has tenesmus of the bladder with intense burning. The burning is less, but the tenesmus
is greater, than in Cantharis. The passing of the urine drop by drop reminds of Aconite,
which has the same symptoms. Aconite, however, is adapted to sudden retention of
urine, for as soon as the disease becomes fully localized as an inflammation Aconite
ceases to be the remedy. Cantharis and Nux vomica have also a similarity in the frequent
fruitless efforts to urinate. In the region of the kidneys there is cutting pain which
extends into the abdomen, the bladder and urethra. The most distressing symptom is
the constant urging to urinate, even a few spoonfuls of urine in the bladder bringing on
this urging, which is accompanied by the terrible distress at the neck of the bladder. This
pain is aggravated immediately following micturition, showing that with this drug the
trouble is more urethral. The urine itself under Cantharis is of a deep red color, deposits
a sediment of mucus and often contain fibrinous casts.
Belladonna, too, is a remedy for painful urination. Hughes says that it is a rarely failing
remedy for nervous dysuria.

#Apis mellifica. [Apis]

The symptoms of scanty urine always leads one to consider whether Apis is or is not the
remedy, for although Apis produces scanty urine there are number of other drugs that
will do the same thing. The keynotes for Apis in urinary affections are scanty or
suppressed urine, drowsiness, oedema in in various parts, thirstlessness and suffocation
on lying down. The urine is dark, highly albuminous, and contains casts, so it is readily
seen how Apis may correspond to any form of Bright's disease. In difficult micturition of
children Apis is often a useful remedy. It has frequent desire, with the passage of a few
drops at a time. Among other symptoms are great irritation at the neck of the bladder
and incontinence of urine. It is also the remedy to be thought of in retained urine or
inflamed bladder after abuse of Cantharis.

#Apocynum cannabinum. [Apoc]

Apocynum seems to act some what on the kidneys and give rise to various dropsical
conditions. It produces a scanty urine, which is light in color, or, as it is given, sherry-
colored. Its first effect is to produce a copious diuresis; this is followed by the scantiness
of urine which results in dropsy. It also produces an incontinence and may be useful in
enuresis. A sinking bruised feeling at the stomach is an indication for its use. it differs
from Arsenic and Apis in the fact that it has unquenchable thirst. Arsenic wants little and
often, Apis is thirstless.

#Berberis vulgaris. [Berb]

Outside of its action on the genito urinary system Berberis is seldom thought of,land it is
one of our principal remedies for troubles of this system. It seems to correspond to
many symptoms which occur in cases of renal calculi. It has severe tearing pains in the
kidneys, not merely backache, but pains deep in the kidneys themselves; these pains
extend down the back in the kidneys themselves; these pains extend down the back and
down the ureters into the bladder;nor do stop here, for we find cutting pains in the
bladder extending into the urethra. These pains in the back and along the ureters are
very severe; they are worse stooping, lying or sitting, and relieved by standing. In the
bladder they cause a desire to urinate, and the patient is constantly urinating, for the
bladder seems imperfectly emptied. The bladder aches. The urine itself is reddish, has a
reddish deposit consisting of mucus, epithelium and lithates. It differs from the Pareira
brava urine in being more slimy. Another characteristic symptoms of Berberis is pain in
the hips while urinating. Coccus cacti has some similar symptoms to Berberis, especially
the tearing pains extending from the region of the kidneys, the frequent urging to
urinate, the deposits of uric acid and the urine of Coccus cacti is dark. These remedies
must be distinguished very carefully as they present many symptoms in common.
Berberis has rather more back pains, and seems to act deeper. It is especially indicated
in genitourinary troubles, which are due to conditions of atony, or faiblesse.

#Pareira brava. [Pareir]

This is another drug very similar to Berberis vulgaris-as to pains in the back it is quite
similar; yet they do not stop in the hips with Pareira as they do under mostly clinical. It
has been found useful in cystitis where there is violent straining to urinate, where the
patient has to kneel to urinate, where the urine scalds terribly and where these violent
pains in the thighs are present. The urine has a strong ammoniacal odor. Contains thick
viscid white mucus or deposits or red sand. The three-legged stool of the drug seems to
be: the pain in the thighs, the getting down on all fours to urinate, and the ammoniacal
odor of the urine. It is also a useful remedy in the condition known as irritable bladder,
dull aching in bladder, feeling as if the bladder were distended, with pain.

#Equisetum hyemale. [Equis]

Equisetum acts similarly to Cantharis, but it has less tenesmus and haematuria, and the
urine is less scalding. There is pain in the bladder as if too full, not relieved by
micturition; the constant desire to urinate is not even relieved by copious urination. The
urine is scanty, high colored and contains much mucus. Much mucus in the urine is more
indicative of Equisetum than of Cantharis. Chimaphila also has much mucus, is especially
useful in prostatic troubles, and has made some cures when there were great quantities
of ropy mucus in the urine, which was quite offensive. This is a wonderful remedy in the
cystic irritation of old men, characterizesd by a constant teasing desire to urinate with
little or no relief following micturition; the patient being frequently compelled to rise at
night. The state is one of irritation rather than inflammation. Dr. Hughes considered it a
favorite remedy in chronic cystitis. The general aggravation of Equisetum seems to be
after urinating. Difficulty in beginning to urinate, strains a great deal, scanty urine. It has
proved useful in enuresis with marked vesical irritation, being similar here to Eupatorium
purpureum, which is a useful remedy in the vesical irritation of women, with much
burning in the urethra during urination. With the foregoing symptoms, Equisetum
becomes an important remedy in the treatment of cystitis. It has been suggested in the
dysuria of children; the pain being worse after urinating will distinguish it from
Petroselinum, which has the symptom that the child dances up and down with pain when
the urging to urinate comes on.

#Digitalis purpurea. [Dig]

The urinary symptoms of Digitalis consist of a dragging and pressure in the bladder
which micturition does not relieve. It has been found useful in inflammation in the neck
of the bladder with intense desire to urinate, which is increased even by the passage of a
few drops. The patient walks about in great distress; at the same time there is tenesmus
of the rectum. The patient is relieved somewhat of these symptoms by lying on the back.
The pain at neck of the bladder is throbbing. The urine is scanty, thick and turbid, and
contains a sediment of brick-dust, like Lycopodium. The urging to urinate in cases calling
for Digitalis is often due to the enlargement of the prostate gland, for which it is a
remedy.

#Terebinth. [Tereb]
The urine of Terebinth is one of its most characteristic features. It is smoky, turbid,
depositing a sediment like coffee grounds, which indicates the presence of disintegrated
blood cells. Haematuria from venous congestion of the kidneys calls often for Terebinth.
It has burning during micturition and most painful strangury; the urine, too, may contain
albumen and has the odor of violets. Peculiar odors to urine may be fond under the Viola
tricolor, where it smells like that of the cat, and Benzoic acid, where it smells strong and
ammoniacal, like that of a horse. Terebinth is a useful remedy in cystitis, with much
tenesmus of the bladder and the scanty, bloody urine; there is also pressure in the
bladder, which extends to the kidneys. In acute and chronic nephritis it is often
indicated. The urine, oedema and the bronchial catarrh may all point to the remedy.

#Nux vomica. [Nux-v]

Nux vomica affects powerfully the urinary organs, yet it is seldom thought of as having
anything specially characteristic about these organs. It affects the lower part of the
spine, and we have as a consequence, in the first place, incontinence of urine; there is
irritability at the neck of the bladder, and the same symptoms is found here as with the
rectum. There are frequent ineffectual efforts to urinate, and these are accompanied by
burning and tearing pains; the urine passes in drops. Again, it is indicated in vesical
torpor or paralysis; here we have dribbling of urine or retention. Haematuria from abuse
of drugs calls of Nux vomica. Cystitis, with this painful urging and scanty urine indicates
the remedy. The straining is violent at times, and the urine is dark with a red brick-dust
sediment, or bloody, or mixed with a tenacious mucus.
Opium is similar to Nux in having a partial paralysis of the bladder with spasmodic
condition of the sphincter, but with Opium the patient is unconscious that the bladder is
full, and there is no desire to pass water. The Stramonium patient passes no water
because the urine has been suppressed; it is not secreted.
Camphor gives prompt relief in spasmodic retention of urine.
Nux is useful in the irritable bladder of gout and alcoholism, and to relieve pain and
spasm in the passage of urinary calculi.

#Causticum. [Caust]
In paralytic conditions about the bladder Causticum deserves first place. It is one of our
great remedies in enuresis, and its characteristics are involuntary micturition at night in
sleep, when coughing, sneezing or blowing the nose, showing a weakness of the
sphincter. Another indication of this is the difficulty the patient has in passing the last
few drops of urine; the fact that he has to wait a long time before it starts, and that
during the act it is expelled very slowly, showing not only a weakness of the sphincter
but a weakness of the whole muscular system of the bladder. Nocturnal wetting of the
bed in children, occurring during the first sleep at night, calls for Causticum. Paralysis of
the bladder after labor also calls for this remedy. Zincum is another excellent remedy in
these bladder troubles, and it has some symptoms similar to Causticum, such as
involuntary spurting of urine when coughing or sneezing; there is apt to be more pain in
Zincum cases, however; Scilla and Natrum muriaticum also have involuntary micturition
when coughing. Another symptom of Causticum is an excessive deposit of urates in the
urine. Another remedy which clinically has proved very useful in enuresis from weakened
muscular action is Ferrum phosphoricum. Rhus aromatica has enuresis of nervous origin,
and has been used successfully in senile cases.

#Sepia. [Sep]
One of the prominent remedies for lithaemic conditions is Sepia, and the condition of the
urine becomes an indication for its use. It has a reddish clay-colored sediment adhering
to the vessel, a sediment of red sand so-called. The Sepia urine differs from others in
being offensive. Sepia is also a remedy for wetting the bed at night during the first sleep.
Lycopodium is a prominent remedy for the indication of red sand in the urine. It is a sort
of gravel and is passed in quantities, so that often the child will scream with pain on
passing the water. Lycopodium will then help. Sarsaparilla and Benzoic acid have similar
symptoms, the latter having as a characteristic a strong horse-like urine. Natrum
muriaticum also has their red sand or brick-dust sediment. Another remedy having this
symptom very marked in Ocimum canum. This is a very useful remedy in renal colic and
gravel. The patient has to micturate every few minutes, during which he wrings his
hands and groans with pain. Nausea is often present. The quantity of sand deposited is
very large. In cystitis, with a constant desire to urinate and dragging in the bladder,
Sepia may prove useful; here it will be indicated by its general Symptoms.

Vesicaria is recommended to favor expulsion of gravel and sand in urine, also Thalspi
bursa Pastoris.

#Mercurius corrosivus. [Merc-c]

A remedy affecting the genitourinary tract profoundly is Mercurius corrosivus. It has the
most violent tenesmus of the bladder of an remedy, resembling most closely Cantharis;
it has also extreme burning, and hence is indicated in cystitis with these symptoms, or in
kidney troubles associated with this pain in the neck of the bladder. The patient has
frequent calls but passes little urine, and the urine is bloody and albuminous. It is one of
the comparatively few remedies producing albumen in the urine. Phosphorous is another,
and Plumbum yet another, and all three have proved serviceable in Bright's disease. The
great vesical tenesmus, burning, and bloody urine will indicate this remedy at once,
whether it be in cystitis, albuminuria after diphtheria or kidney disease.

Biochemic Cell Salts

CALCAREA FLUORICUM

For glandular tumors, varicose veins, prolapsus uterus, bone affections etc

This salt is indicated in all diseases affecting the substance forming the surface of the
bone, the enamel of the teeth and part of elastic fibres, no matter in what structure they
may be found. A deficiency of the elastic fibres in the muscular tissue causes a
relaxation, which is a primary condition in many diseases.

Indicated in all ailments that can be traced to a relaxed condition of the elastic fibres,
including dilatation of blood vessels such as blood-tumors, piles, enlarged and varicose
veins, indurated glands, enlargement of the heart, relaxed uvula, prolapsed of the
womb, etc. Also useful in the diseases of the respiratory organs with difficult
expectoration of small yellow lumps. The symptoms are all worse in damp weather and
are relieved by fomentation and by rubbing.
CALCAREA PHOSPHORICUM

For anaemia, chlorosis, deficient development, dentition disorders, bone affections,

dyspepsia etc.

The sphere of the Phosphate of Lime includes all bone diseases, whether due to some
inherited dyscrasia or to defective nutrition in osseous and other structures dependent
upon a proper distribution of lime molecules in the body. It is the bone cell-salt. Without
this element, no bone can be formed and hence it is a valuable remedy in childhood
when the bones are in the condition of being formed. Cal. Phos. is also found in the
gastric juice and plays an important part in the process of digestion and assimilation. It
is of importance in anaemia, in chlorosis, in convulsions and spasms, in weak scrofulous
subjects; during dentition when the teeth are slow in making their appearance and decay
too rapidly; also in other teething disorders. In convalescence after acute and chronic
wasting diseases, it acts as a tonic by building up new red blood corpuscles and by
restoring the lost vitality. Deficient development of children and young people emaciation
without apparent cause onanism, suppuration of bones, spinal weakness and curvature.
Aids the union of fractured bones. Rheumatism of the joints, chronic enlargements of the
tonsils and goiter. Cholera infantum, faeces hot and offensive. Dyspepsia; food seems to
lie in a lump; vomiting after cold drinks. Cold, change of weather, motion, getting wet,
generally aggravates symptoms. Relieved by rest, warmth and by lying down.

CALCAREA SULPHURICUM

For suppurations, boils, carbuncles, gonorrhea and chronic catarrhal conditions.

This is a most excellent remedy in suppurations to which it is closely related. It is an

eliminator of effete matter. A deficiency of this salt causes long protracted suppurations.
It is indicated in swelling of the soft parts in connective tissue with threatened
suppuration or where suppuration has already taken place. Abscesses either aborting or
hastening suppuration. Suppurative stage of eruptive diseases of the skin. Boils,
carbuncles, felons, pimples and pustules on the face; suppurative stage of gonorrhea; 'in
fact in all ailments where pus-formations are liable to develop or have already
developed. Chronic catarrhal conditions with purulent secretions. Advanced stages of
lung diseases. The true indication for this remedy is a thick, heavy yellow pus,
sometimes streaked with blood. Symptoms are aggravated by getting wet or by washing
and working in water,
FERRUM PHOSPHORICUM

For acute congestions, inflammations, fevers, etc.

Ferrum Phos. Is given in the initial stage of all congestions, inflammations and fevers.
This salt possesses an affinity or attraction for oxygen and carries it to all parts of the
body and hence is an important agent in all diseases in which the blood and the
corpuscles are involved. Consequently, the first remedy in all cases depending upon the
relaxed condition of the muscular tissue and in abnormal conditions of the corpuscles of
the blood themselves. It gives strength to the circular wall of the blood vessels. It
supplies the colour to the blood corpuscles. A deficiency of this cell salt is the cause of
fevers and inflammatory conditions and so indicated in all febrile disturbances and in
inflammatory and congestive diseases at the beginning, especially before exudation has
commenced. The principal accompaniments of these conditions calling for Ferrum Phos
are manifested by flushed face, fever with full pulse, hot, dry skin, thirst, pain and
redness of the part. An excellent remedy in anaemia, chlorosis, pneumonia,
inflammatory rheumatism, tonsillitis, diphtheria, cystitis, nosebleed, incontinence of
urine, apoplexy, gastritis etc. The symptoms calling for this remedy are always
aggravated by motion and ameliorated by cold.

KALI MURIATICUM

For second stage of inflammatory diseases, diphtheria, croup, catarrh, pneumonia,

glandular swellings, deafness etc.

Kali Mur. is given for the sequel of all inflammations, for exudations and infiltrations,
especially of a fibrous character and in inflammations of serous membranes, when the
exudation is plastic in nature. A most excellent remedy in the later stages of all catarrhal
states. This cell-salt works with the fibrine, which is found in every tissue of the
organism except boric. In inflammatory exudations we find fibrine in the serous cavities
and on the mucous membranes. The use of Kali Mur. usually follows Ferrum Phos. in
inflammatory disorders. The characteristic symptoms of Kali Mur which is always
indicated in the second stage of the inflammatory diseases, are glandular swellings,
discharges or expectorations of a thick, white fibrinous consistency, white or gray
exudations and a white or gray coating of the tongue. The efficacy of this remedy is
demonstrated in chronic catarrhal conditions, croup, diphtheria, dysentery, pneumonia
etc. Diarrhoea with pale, yellow faces. With Ferrum Phos is should be given in coughs.
Useful in deafness from the catarrh of the Eustachian tubes, in skin eruptions with small
vesicles containing yellowish secretions, ulcerations, ulcerations with swelling and white
exudations, in rheumatism with swelling of the parts, in leucorrhoea and gonorrhea with
characteristic discharge. Symptoms in general are worse from motion, while gastric and
abdominal symptoms are worse after taking pastry, rich and fatty foods.

KALI PHOSPHORICUM

For neurasthenic condition in general, sleeplessness.

Kali Phos. is a constituent of the brain, nerves, muscles and blood vessels. It unites with
albumen and creates nerve fluid or the gray matter of the brain. Nervous symptoms
indicate a deficiency of this cell-salt, which must be supplied to restore the normal
condition. Whatever disease can be traced to the nerve degeneracy, we enter the field of
Kali Phos. Nervous condition known as neurasthenia is a field in which this salt has
become prominently curative. The results of the want of nerve power, such as
prostration, loss of mental vigor, depression, brain-fag, softening of the brain, insanity,
paralysis, epilepsy, hysteria, locomotor ataxia and when there is rapid decomposition of
the blood. It is curative in septic haemorrhages, scorbutus, gangrene, stomatitis,
offensive carrion-like diarrhoea, dysentery, a dynamic or typhoid conditions, incontinence
of urine, urticaria, predisposition of epistaxis in children, dizziness and vertigo from
sleeplessness, nervous exhaustion, nervous dyspepsia, asthma, neuralgia, nervous
headaches, tongue coated as if with dark liquid mustard. Symptoms are aggravated from
noise, by mental or physical exertion, by rising from a sitting position. Pains worse in
cold and ameliorated by gentle motion.

KALI SULPHURICUM

For third stage of inflammatory or catarrhal condition, leucorrhoea, diarrhoea, skin

diseases, rheumatism, ulcerations, dyspepsia

Kali Sulph is a carrier of oxygen. It furnishes vitality to the epithelial tissues. Light
yellow, sticky and watery secretions are the characteristics of this remedy. The chief
indication for this remedy is yellow deposit on the tongue. It has been given in bronchitis
with yellow, slimy or thin, watery expectoration, in whooping cough, pneumonia pthisis,
skin diseases with a sticky yellowish secretion and peeling off of the epidermis.
Epithelioma, rheumatism, retrocession of eruptions in measles. Dyspepsia with slimy
yellow coating of the tongue, catarrh of the bowels, diarrhoea, leucorrhoea, ophthalmia
etc; with light yellow, watery secretions; dandruff; yellow scales in skin diseases.
Amenorrhoea, menstruation too late and too scanty with weight and fullness in the
abdomen etc. All ailments are worse in a warm room and toward evening and better in
cool, open air.
MAGNESIA PHOSPHORICUM

For convulsions, epilepsy, cramps and spasmodic affections, neuralgia, sciatica.

It is a constituent of muscles, nerves, brain, bone, spine, teeth and blood corpuscles. It
helps to create the white fibres of the muscles and nerves. It uses water and albumen to
form the transparent fluid, which nourishes the white threads and fibres of nerves and
muscles. The deficiency of this salt allows the fibres to contract, causing spasms,
cramps, convulsions and other nervous phenomena. It is a remedy to be thought of in all
maladies having their origin in nerve cells and in the muscular tissue. It is particularly
indicated in lean, thin, emaciated persons of a highly nervous temperament. Magnesia
patient is always languid, tired and easily exhausted. The value of this remedy is shown
in all forms of spasms, cramps, tetanus. St. Vitu's dance, epilepsy, spasmodic retention
of urine, paralysis agitans, hiccup, whooping cough, chorea. It is the remedy for the
neuralgic pains in the head, face, teeth, car, stomach, abdomen etc. spasmodic
palpitation of the heart, dysmenorrhoea. Attacks are often attended with great
prostration, sometimes with profuse sweat. Valuable remedy for flatulent colic forcing
the patient to bend double. Dysentery with cramp-like pains, angina pectoris, sciatica
with excruciating spasmodic pains, angina pectoris, sciatica with excruciating spasmodic
pain writer's and piano-player's cramps. All pains are lightening-like, shooting or boring,
and change their location frequently and are worse on the right side, from cold air,
washing in cold water, and from touch. Relieved by warmth pressure, friction and by
bending double.

NATRUM MURIATICUM

For catarrhal affections with thin, clear, transparent, watery secretions, influenza, hay-
fever, diarrhoea, constipation, leucorrhoea, intermittent fevers and skin diseases.

This salt is a constituent of every liquid and solid part of the body. Its function is to
regulate the degree of moisture within the cells. It properly distributes the water through
the organism.

Deficiency in this salt causes the disturbance of water in the human organism. An
unequal distribution of water in the system sometimes causes excessive dryness of
mucous membranes in some part, while there may be a copious, watery fluid from
another part. Naturm Mur. will set things right and will establish equilibrium. It acts upon
the lymphatic system, the blood, liver, spleen and upon the mucous lining of' the
alimentary canal. It is indicated in headache, toothache, faceache, stomachache and also
where there is either salivation or hyper secretion of tears or vomiting of water and
mucus. Catarrhal affections of mucous membranes with secretion of transparent, watery,
frothy mucus. Small watery blisters, breaking and leaving a thin crust. Skin diseases
with watery symptoms. Diarrhoea with transparent, frothy, slimy stools. Constipation
with dull headache and profuse tears. Conjunctivitis with clear watery discharge. Tongue
clean, slimy, small bubbles of frothy saliva on sides. Leucorrhoea with watery, smarting
or clear, starch-like discharge, gleet, coryza with loss of smell and taste, follicular catarrh
of the pharynx, thrush with salivation, diphtheria with drowsiness, inflammation of uvula
with elongation, catarrh of the bladder, impotence, prostatic fluid, paralysis, chorea,
chlorosis, insomnia, pneumonia with loose rattling phlegm, intermittent fever, especially
after abuse of quinine. Anasarca, gout, chronic swellings of lymphatic and sebaceous
glands. Hemicrania.

NATRUM PHOSPHORICUM

For gastric and intestinal disorders with sour and acid symptoms, worms, acidity,
diarrhoea.

Through the presence of this salt, lactic acid is decomposed in carbonic acid and water. It
eliminates the carbonic acid through the lungs. It has also the power to eliminate any
excess of sugar from the blood.

This is the remedy in all cases where there is an excess of lactic acid. It acts also upon
the bowels, glands, lungs and abdominal organs. Deficiency of this salt in the gastric
juice will bring about acid and sour fermentations, and so it cures sour belching and sour
rising of fluids. Sour vomiting, sour eructation with flatulence, greenish, sour smelling,
diarrhoea, colic, spasms due to acid conditions of the stomach. Fever from acidity of
stomach in children. Febrile condition with acid and sour smelling perspiration. Ague with
characteristic coating of the tongue. Thick, moist, golden yellow coating of the tongue
and palate and also a creamy yellowish exudation are the characteristic symptoms
calling for this remedy. Eye complaints discharging a creamy yellow matter. Intestinal
worms. Incontinence of urine in children with acidity. Atony of bladder, seminal emissions
without dreams, leucorrhoea. with creamy or honey colored or acid and watery
discharge, uterine displacements accompanied by rheumatic pains. Goiter, scrofulosis
with acid symptoms. Hives, crusta lactea.

NATRUM SULPHURICUM

For hepatic diseases, bilious attacks, intermittent fevers, headaches, diarrhoea, diabetes,
asthma, la grippe, dropsy.
This salt aids and regulates the excretion of the superficial water. It eliminates and
excess of water from the blood. It keeps the bile in normal consistency. The three
natrum salts work in the body as follows. Natrum Phos creates the water by splitting up
of lactic acid; Nat Mur distributes the water through the system. Nat. Sulph. regulates
the quantity of water in the organism. Nat. Sulph. is preeminently a liver remedy. It
exhibits a marked similarity to the uric acid diathesis and is certainly a valuable remedy
in combating or numerous phases of that malady. Dirty, brownish green or grayish-green
coating on the root of the tongue. Dark greenish stools from excess of bile, bitter taste,
vomiting of bile, diabetes from jaundice, bilious headache, dropsy, diseases of the liver.
Excellent in influenza, intermittent fever and ague in all stages with vomiting and other
bilious symptoms. Enlargement of the liver, erysipelas, smooth, red shiny eruptions
coming in blotches with swelling of skin. Gravel, sand in urine, gout, fig warts, asthma
and dyspnoea aggravated by change to damp weather, edematous inflammations of the
skin, skin diseases with moist, yellowish scales, yellow watery secretions in all vesicles.
Vomiting in pregnancy with bitter taste, fistulous abscesses discharging watery
secretions, tendency to warts around the eyes, scalp, face, chest and arms etc.
Symptoms are worse in the morning, in damp, wet weather and from lying on left side.
Relief in warm dry weather and in the open air.

SILICEA

For chronic suppurations and ulcerations, carbuncles, tonsillitis, glandular swellings,

indurations, scrofula, foot sweats, uterine disorders.

It acts more upon the organic substances of the body, involving prominently bones,
joints, glands, skin and mucous surfaces, producing malnutrition and corresponding to
the scrofulous diathesis. Its action is deep and long lasting. It is especially suited to
imperfectly nourished constitutions. It is a remedy for deep-seated chronic and acute
suppurations and ulcerations, affecting the tendons, periosteum and bone. promotes
suppuration. Indicated when there is hardness and indurations with suppuration.
Infiltrations terminating in suppuration. It ripens abscesses by promoting suppurations.
Valuable also in diseases resulting from suppressed foot sweats. Metrorrhagia in
menstruation, associated with icy coldness over the whole body. Constipation and fetid
foot-sweats. Ozena, carbuncles, tonsillitis, scrofula, syphilitic indurations, glandular
swellings which become hard and threaten to suppurate. Styes on eyelids. Epilepsy
especially nocturnal arid with change of moon. Gouty deposits in large joints of fingers.
Chronic dyspepsia, copious night sweats especially in phthisis. Third stage of
tuberculosis. Symptoms are always worse at night, during full moon, in the open air and
from suppressed foot sweats and are better by the application of heat and warmth.
