Being available to answer questions, see what is happening in the classroom and interacting with children and faculty is critical, no matter what age of children. Great experience. Exp. Record #: 11044 Date submitted: 08/06/2012 Elizabeth Hogan approved on 08/07/2012 Cohort: UEN 2011

Field-Based Internship Reflection Form For Internship Experience Standard 1: Visionary Leadership; Standard 2: Instructional Leadership; Standard 3: Organizational Leadership; Standard 4: Collaborative Leadership; Standard 5: Ethical Leadership; Standard 6: Political Leadership Standard and Criteria 5.e Demonstrates respect for divergent opinions Level Early Childhood Time Spent 5 hour(s) Note

Briefly describe this field-based internship experience, including your specific role (1/2 page). My specific role in this experience was observer and volunteer. I visited the early childhood summer program in Waterloo a few times. I jumped around from classroom to classroom like a principal would and observed the different styles and classes going on. When given the opportunity for feedback on what I observed I discussed what I noticed in the classrooms with the specific teacher. As a teacher, I like to know what the observers caught in my classroom right away, and if they have any advice or comments I always want to hear them. I kept that in mind when talking to the different teachers. I told them upfront that I was just a teacher logging in some hours for my masters, I was in no way an administrator. I just gave feedback on what I noticed, and some professional advice. They were really good short quick discussions. I walked away taking some professional advice from the teachers as well, advice I can use at any level of education, and probably in the future with my own children. Advice is very well received when each of the professionals respect each others divergent opinions. Reflect on what you have learned from this experience, from mentor discussions, and how you will use this learning in future administrative leadership roles (no more than 1/2 page). I learned from this experience that professionalism and respect go a long way in the educational setting. There is room for disagreements and different opinions, but it is a lot easier to hear others if you can respect them and they respect you. I can see this experience helping me in the future when having discussions with professionals who have opinions I don't necessarily agree with but will have to respect. I have had a few different experiences in the professional education setting where adults have not respected each others opinion. I will take this experience with me in the future as I probably will be a lot younger than most of teachers I will be administrating over.
