SOAKAWAY DESIGN
Example calculation Roof Drainage Assume Flat roof area to be drained = 3m x 6.5m = 19.5m 2 Soakaway design Roof area Total Area 19.5 m2 19.5 m2 (1 in 10 year storm)
Assume 1) Soakaway capacity to hold maximum daily rainfall. 2) Storage depth minimum 1.0m. 3) Soakaways to be honeycombed brickwork or concrete rings. Volume of soakaway(s) required 19.5 m2 x 0.040 = 0.78 m3
Using 1.2 m diameter ring soakaway capacity per 1 metre depth r2 x 1.0 = x 0.62 = 1.13 m 3 = 0.78/1.13 = 0.7
No of soakaway chambers
Therefore provide 1 soakaway 1.2m diameter minimum 1m depth below drain invert.
