Weekly Goal Sheet

Name: Yajaira Martinez

1. Reflection What did I accomplish this week in the field?
On Monday my class got to go to the Symphony and the museum. The class had a great time and we returned in time for math. This week I taught math on Monday and Tuesday. I played a chapter review game with the students and on Tuesday we reviewed some more and took the test. For ELL morning group we focused on long u patterns and sorted out words while learning their long u pattern and vocabulary. We also worked on spelling. During my small reading group my fist group is working on sequencing and conflict and solution. We just finished Authors Valentine and started reading Madeline. My second group is working on compare and contrast using different animal books; they are also doing main idea and supporting details. This week I started the unit on magnetism the students we had an open discussion about magnetism and watch a short video to deepen our conversation. After, the kids were able to experiment with magnets. For writing the students are still working hard on persuasive writing, but this week

we also started a mini lesson on similes. I had students listen to a simile song and we discussed what they were. Now the students are working on a song of their own.

Ms. Peirce took back math on Wednesday and I am now starting to observe her math lessons again. I continue to plan with her and attend any fifth grade meetings we have. On Friday we had a meeting with Mrs. Hart. We focused on struggling students and how to get them engage. The meeting went well. I continue to grade the students writing and math homework. I also graded their last chapter 7 math test. Ms. Peirce will also be taking over science this coming up week and I will continue to observe and learn from her.

On Monday I felt nervous about taking the whole class on a field trip. I had a substitute help me and a paraprofessional with me but I wanted to make sure everything went well. I should have not been nervous at all the class was well behaved throughout the whole field trip. I had not problems and they all follow directions. On Wednesday I felt great because Ms. Peirce gave me an evaluation paper that the sub left for me with the office. The paper read Best student teacher Ive worked with. Mrs. Martinez knows how to handle a class of kids. He might of have been really nice, but with everything going on it was just what I need to give me a lift. I felt great it made me feel proud and confident. Ms. Peirce keeps on being a great site teacher. I really have learned a lot from her and continue learning. I feel that I can trust her and I feel her support.

2. Reflect personally on your experience in one of these areas.

3. Looking ahead What do you want to focus on next week? What goals can I set? I will continue to teach morning Ell group, small reading group, writing and help with management. I will also be working more one on one with the ELL students in my class when Ms. Peirce is teaching math and science. This week I plan to work on my ELL interview and video.
