Lesson Title: Goal Step It Up: Cardio Workout Students will understand and apply the benefits of long-term exercise. Students will continue to work collaboratively in a group setting to complete a group workout video. Students will participate in a workout video while taking mental notes of the various parts of a workout that can be incorporated in their workout projects. Grade Level: 6th Subject: Physical Education OBJECTIVE (S) INTELLIGENCES Standard Objectives: 1. Students will be able to verbally explain and apply their understanding of long-term exercise and its benefits. Kinesthetic, Verbal 2. Student will be able to Visual, Naturalist use various workout components that are demonstrating in the workout video in their personal workout video project. Technology Objective: 1. Inform students that we are going to do a cardio workout video today. Think about the different parts. Allow students to use information and techniques from video in their group workout projects. 2. I Do Introduction (Direct Instruction) (10 min). Demonstrate a few of the steps from the video before starting the video. Allow students to see the pace and encourage them to have fun and not to stop. Also discuss the long-term benefits of participation in regular physical activity. For example: Improves chances of living longer and healthier, helps to protect against heart disease, high blood pressure, certain cancers, diabetes 2, stress reliever, reduces chances of depression, prevents weight gain, promotes weight loss, improves heart and lung muscles, improves sleep. We Do: (15-20 min) Prepare in advance the YouTube video or workout video of your choice either from a computer and document camera or the Apply TV. Play the video where all student can see and with enough space for students to move around as they follow the video. Participate with the video with as well. Monitor and observe the students. Provide additional instruction and clarification regarding the project. 5. Closure/Assessment: Ask students to recall any of the benefits from participating long-term physical activity that were discussed earlier. Product/Assessment
