Media

A medium (plural, media) is a means of communication and source of information. Derived from the Latin, it refers to anything that carries information between a source and a receiver. The purpose of media is to facilitate communication and learning. The newer learning technologies (products) are used recently. The media preferred are different from those used by teachers.

Media

There are six basic types of media used in learning and instruction namely text, audio, visuals, motion media, manipulatives and people.

Text:
the most commonly used alphanumeric characters may be displayed in any format such as book, poster, chalkboard, computer screen, etc.

Audio:

anything you can hear such as music, peoples voice, noise, etc. may be live or recorded

Visuals:
used to promote learning include diagram on a poster, drawings on chalkboard, photographs, graphics in a book, cartoons and so on.

Motion Media:

the media that show motion including video tape, animation, and so on.

Manipulatives are three dimensional and can be touched and handled by students.

People:

These may be teachers, students, or subject matter experts. People are critical to learning. Students learn from teachers, other students, and other adults.
