MATERNAL MORTALITY (MM)

According to the WHO classification of diseases :

Death of woman while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, regardless of the duration and site of the pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy or its management but not from accidental or incidental causes.

INDICATORS OF MCH- MATERNAL

1. 2. The 10th ICD added two terms to obtain the whole estimation of MM. These are: Late Maternal Deaths: from 42 days after delivery up to one year after delivery. Pregnancy-Related Deaths: all maternal deaths regardless of the pathology, which includes the incidental and accidental causes. B.

Indirect Obstetric Death (25 %): these are deaths resulting from diseases existing before pregnancy or occurred during pregnancy such as diabetes, hypertension, renal problems, thyroid problems, etc.

CAUSES OF MM
At the international and the local aspect, major causes of maternal mortality are: 1. 2. Sever Hemorrhage & bleeding ( 25%). Infections (13%). 6. Other direct causes (8%) : {ex.:Anesthesia complications.}

3.
