Key Concept Vocabulary: Black History Month, civil rights, African American civil right movement, protests, segregation, boycott, Jim Crow Laws Anticipatory Set: In order to get students excited about the new project I will read to them what I wrote to explain our project to the guests on presentation night. I will post it and read it to them with feeling and excitement. This is the explanation, We remember the big names and honor them yearly. These are important people who fought hard for civil rights. Yet there were many who made a variety of contributions during the civil rights movement. All of these activists are worthy of mention and should be honored for their dedication to a worthy cause. We will never know really how important their impact has been on our great nation. Sit back and enjoy a journey through history as we remember the FORGOTTEN ACTIVISTS with a modern twist that will keep your attention, while you learn more than you bargained for. I will then show an introduction video that explains the civil rights movement. Steps: 1. Students choose a random preselected civil rights activists that is unknown by many but had a great contribution to the civil right movement. 2. Demonstrate the facebook template to students that will be used to create a simple biography about their activist. 3. Students will receive a paper copy of the template to fill in during research. They will also create two column notes for their activist with additional information they want to write about, but cannot fit into the template. 4. Students will use internet safely to research their activist and fill in facebook template and take notes.

5. Students will get template approved and then type into template their approved information. 6. Students will create two questions about their activist for the game show. 7. Students will work as a class to formulate game show components like name, set up, organization. Roles will be assigned and practiced for the presentation. 8. Final facebook biographies will be printed out and game will be practiced to make sure information is easy to find for parents. 9. Presentation-Parents will arrive and sign in at the door. There will be a holding area where they will be given the facebook profiles to look over. When their turn comes they will enter into the game show as contestants. They will be using the portfolios to answer the questions using the interactive clickers. The students will run the entire game show and teacher will control technology to find out winners.
