Title: Nigerian History Specific Purpose: To inform the audience on the various cultures and history of Nigeria. Introduction: Attention Material: Nigeria a country of 170 million people resides in the continent Africa which has about 54 countries. Nigeria is also known as the most populous country in Africa and the 17 th most populous country in the world. Tie to the audience: Nigeria is made up of 250 ethnic groups. These ethnic groups speak over 50 languages. There are three ethnic groups which are known as the Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo ethnic groups. Credibility Material: Having spent most of my life time in Nigeria, I have come to learn the various cultures and history of the Nation. This gave me the upper hand in understand the people of Nigeria and their way of living. Preview: I will go into detail on the history of Nigeria, The British colonial era 11900-1960, outline and explain the various climate conditions and changes in Nigeria.

Body

Nigeria, made up of 36 states consists of three major ethnic groups. These are the Yoruba Hausa and Igbo ethnic groups. The Hausa ethnic group which is the central core and the largest ethnic group in Nigeria are known for their creativity. They are mostly involved in craft work such as shoe manufacturing, and knitting.

The Yoruba community consists of the second largest population in Nigeria. They are sometimes called the people of the river, mostly known for their fishing techniques and productivity. The Yoruba community spend their time near water bodies, They believe that all things come from water and go in water. The Yourubas mostly supply sea foods in Nigeria.

The Igbo nation is known for the high impact on beauty. Sometimes known to as Omaka which means the beauty people, They mostly reside in the east side of the nation and believe the human body is a temple. You mostly see the Ibgos dressed and covered in beeds and jewery in an attempt to decorate their body.

The Nigerian flag is made up of the green and white color. The green section represents the wealth and fruitful land of Nigeria. Nigeria is rich in natural resources such as crude oil making it the 15 th largest oil producing country in the world.

Nigeria was invaded in 1807 by the British and became part of the British Empire during this time period. In 1900 the British colonized Nigeria and brought in Christianity and other western culture civilization.

Climate in Nigeria is known to be extremely hot! The lowest temperature is about 60F in the east but could rapidly increase to about 100F. This is because Nigeria is located at the equator of the earth between the tropic of cancer.. There are also two main seasons. 1 Rainy season- Rains A lot 2 The dry season. Dry weather which leads to the hamathan period.

Conclusion Nigeria has a very rich cultural background which is build upon its people and history. The nation remains the most populous and famous nation in Africa.
