As a graduate of Alma College with a degree in Elementary Education and additional certifications Mathematics and English Language Arts, I am highly qualified to teach in each of these areas as well as Social Studies and Science. I have extensive teaching experience in Elementary classrooms of all levels both in private and public school settings. From this experience, I discovered the importance of student directed learning and developed science and social studies inquiry stations at the third and fourth grade level to respond to the students learning needs. During my student teaching experience in a first grade classroom, I developed and implemented differentiated instructional plans based upon individual student needs and engaged students in a cross-curricular service learning project and integrated technology lesson. I also developed a case study of assessments and differentiated instructional plans for an individual student with specific reading needs. I hope to bring this extensive educational knowledge as well as a warm, compassionate, and caring heart to all students to establish a constructive, supportive environment in which all students can learn. In addition to my extensive experience in Michigan schools, I have gained additional educational skills working with children and youth in Tijuana, Mexico and Kampala, Uganda. As the director of childrens ministries for a summer outreach program in Tijuana, Mexico, I assisted in the development and implementation of childrens programming designed to engage young children in multiple forms of educational material. Additionally, as a volunteer and tutor to early elementary students in Kampala, Uganda, I became aware of and utilized international teaching methodology and developed skills needed to work with children from at risk and disadvantaged homes. These experiences have enabled me to work with children in a cross-cultural setting and instilled in me a compassion for and understanding of individuals from varied backgrounds that I hope to instill within my students.
