Lecture-Discussion is a type of instructional model designed to help students acquire organized bodies of knowledge, [Topics that connect facts, concepts, and generalizations], and understand the relationships of ideas within them.

^ ASSESSING Teachers should assess the students according to their understanding of the topic and their ability to identify relationships amongst those topics.. .preferably with open-ended questions and/or short-essay questions which requires the students to transfer their knowledge to new situations./Also, providing students with a list of concepts and having them to organize them hierarchically will be a good way of assessing their learning of the topic ^ MOTIVATION The students are motivated by studentinvolvement and group work ^ MODIFICATION Teachers can modify the model by presenting students with a definition or statement of generalization while illustrating the concept or generalization with examples that the students can relate to. For younger students, teachers should do less instruction and more interaction.

Built on the principle that the teacher is the central-focus of information that transfers knowledge into their students... A.K.A "passtvelearners". One of the simplest, easiest and most common "teacherled" methods used in schools

Identify Topics - Teachers should choose a "broad" topic which has a numerous amount of information linked to it/ A large body of organized knowledge which can be taught in more than one lesson or class period-Make sure students have prior knowledge so that there is more engagement and whole class discussion Specify Learning Objectives -What do you want your students to understand about the topic? How does the lesson fit into a larger unit? Teachers should include relationships among the specific forms of content that students are to meet at the end of the discussion/lesson. Structure Content -#1 Rule^Make sure the information is relevant to the students. Teachers should make sure that their planning includes ways of illustrating the concept for topics that aren't familiar to their students. Prepare Lesson Introductions -Teachers should introduce the topic in ways that attracts the students1 attention and maintains their interest throughout the entire lesson. -Create "Advance Organizers"-verbal or written statements presented at the beginning of lessons that preview and structure new material and link it to the students' existing background knowledge... This allows the students to see where they have been and where they are going.

Review and Introduction -Teacher reviews previous topics and presents the advance organizer for the lesson. The teacher can also present an additional question that can provide further focus for the lesson/topic. Presentation -The teacher presents students with information that's designed to develop Iheir background knowledge. The information makes up part of an organized body of knowledge (broad topic). Comprehension Monitoring -Students are asked questions to informally assess the extent to which they remember and understand the information being presented,.. Students can erther be asked to 1) Write an answer to the teacher's question 2) Provide examples 3) Think-pair-Share 4) Vote on an answer amongst many others or 5) Give a choral response. Integration -The teacher presents students with additional information and then asks questions that help the students integrate the new information with information that has already been presented Closure -The teacher guides the students as they review and summarize the information in the lesson, while emphasizing important points in which the information can be attached or linked to other topics m different lessons.

So what? What is important to understand about this? The Lecture-Discussion model ... 1) promotes high-levels of social interaction, 2) is a more effective/efficient way for upholding the students' attention, and 3) allows the instructor to informally access the extent to which the students accurately comprehend the information that is presented.
