ABSTRACT

The primary purpose of this study was to find out the teachers perception of their
involvement in decision-making. Moreover, the study aimed to determine the perceptions
of teachers regarding the type of their involvement in decision-making as well as to assess
teachers perception of their commitment to the teaching profession. It also intended to
find out whether teachers involvement in decision-making and their commitment to the
teaching profession were related to their teaching experience. Further, it tried to assess the
teachers involvement in decision-making in relation to their commitment to the teaching
profession.
A group of 35 teachers from Sekolah Kebangsaan Mulong 2 was the population as well as
the sample for this study. The data was obtained by using a questionnaire that comprised
of Section A, B and C. Frequency, percentage and mean percentage were utilized to
analyse the data.
The finding showed that only a half of the number of teachers was fully hearted to
participate in all of decision-making processes. Meanwhile, most of them were involved
in all types of decision-making and they had a high level of commitment to the teaching
profession. Teachers involvement in decision-making and their level of commitment
were not significantly related to the teaching experience. The focal finding of this study
illustrated that involvement in decision-making was not a factor to enforce teachers
commitment to their profession. Thus, headmasters are recommended to exercise power
sharing by giving more opportunities to teachers to be involved in important decisionmaking processes whether in instructional or managerial domain.
