In the opening quote, John Lewis makes three comparisons. What are they? Why are they important? One comparison is that the water fountains were both labeled. Another is how signs both said white men white woman or colored men colored women. Another is that they shared the same movie theater. They are important because it showed that people were not treated right back then and shows how they were separate but never equal. 2.) What is Plessy v. Ferguson? Why is it important? Plessy v. Ferguson is the U.S. Supreme Court conflict that states could enact laws separating people by skin color as long as the facilities for African Americans were equivalent to those for whites. It is important because it supported a system of racial segregation in states.

3.) Why did some African American parents sue their school district in 1949? Do you think they were right in doing so? Why or why not? They sued their school district over their inequalities between the local white elementary school and the school their children were forced to attend. I think they were definitely right to sue the school because every one should have equal amounts in the world and that we are all one. 4.) How long after that did it take for the Supreme Court to rule that separate schools were unequal? it took 5 years for the supreme court to rule that separate schools were unequal. 5.) In paragraph 5, the writer contrasts the schools attended by black children with those attended by white children. Make two lists one labeled All-White School and one All-Black School.
