Answer all questions. Question 1 [5 marks]. The table lamp consists of two uniform arms, each weighing 4 N and a bulb fixture weighing 10 N [Figure Q1]. (a) If = 16, calculate the moment MA that must be supplied by the friction in joint A [3]. (b) At what angle will the lamp be in equilibrium without the moment MA? [2].
Figure Q1. Question 2 [5 marks]. Determine the force P required to begin rolling the uniform cylinder of mass m over the obstruction of height h (Figure Q2). From your expression, what happens when r is equal to h? [4+1].
Figure Q2.
Question 3 [7 marks]. Calculate the moment of the 100-N force about the point O when is equal to 30 (Figure Q3). Also determine the value of for which the moment about O is zero and for which the moment is maximum [3+2+2].
Figure Q3. Question 4 [8 marks]. The cable BC carries a tension of 750 N [Figure Q4]. v , (a) Write this tension as a force T acting at a point B in terms of unit vectors i j and k . The elbow at A forms a right angle [5]. (b) Replace this 750 N tensile force with a force-couple system at point O [3].
