Word Choice & Imagery


Imagery is a picture you get in your mind as you read Authors choose specific words Word Choice to get the reader to have a SENSE of something hear, see, feel, taste, or smell Theme: The lesson in a story or novel. Prediction: Making a reasonable guess using evidence from what you have read. Inference:
Making a reasonable guess based on evidence & thinking

PLOT: (A series of related events that make up a story)

Characters:
People or animals in a story.

Context Clues: Example, contrast, clue words, restatement Synonyms: Words that have similar meanings Antonyms: Words that have the opposite meanings Homophones: Words that sound alike but have different spelling and meaning Prefixes: Part added to the beginning of a word - undo Suffixes: Part added to the end of a word transportation Root Word: The base part of a word ology - biology

Mood or Atmosphere: The feeling created in a story or passage.

Conclusion: A decision you make after thinking about all the information you have read in the story or text. The conclusion may not be stated directly. You have to look for clues. By putting the clues together, you can draw a conclusion about what you have read.
