Guided a student with extreme anxiety through changes in daily class schedule and environment by incorporating a picture schedule; reviewed pictures and had student repeat daily schedule giving him the confidence to move forward. Created the Im Done activity to reward students who finished assignments early with independent assignments or student assistance. With less downtime in the class, I found the old adage of busy students are happy students to be true. Incorporated numerous hands-on activities and group discussions in a class with a visually impaired student to create a synergistic classroom; worked with student aide for creation of Braille assignments. Planned thirty-minute lessons with intermittent exercises to avoid restlessness and distraction in a class of students learning about new rules and structure. Compared and contrasted healthcare services, homelessness, and education in the UK and the US gained a greater understanding of healthcare (as it pertains to low-income families) and services available to the homeless in the US information that may be passed on to families of my students who cannot afford health insurance, etc. Mingled with cultures and communities resulting in enhanced interpersonal communication skills. Overcame barriers and fears by boldly embarking on solo travel gleaning knowledge of currency exchange, navigation, lifestyle, and paperwork. Kappa Delta Pi (education fraternity) assisted with learning opportunities in local schools and helped with school fundraisers in the Cincinnati area. Literacy 5K Committee organized a 5K run with Miami organizations focused on promoting literacy with a theme of Dr. Seuss. The committee worked on race planning, registration, campus promotion, and execution. Adopt-a-School Program Tutor (math & literacy skills) implemented activities planned by the students teachers, and created and integrated additional lessons.
