Biography My name is Brittany Benjamin and I am a Senior Elementary Education major Sociology minor at Claflin University.

I was born and raised in Darlington, South Carolina, I was raised by my mother Gwendolyn Jeffery and I have a younger sister named Brianna Damon, and I am the first person in my family to attend college. I have enjoyed my matriculation at Claflin University. Attending Claflin has given me numerous opportunities. I have attended a presidential inauguration, studied abroad, heard amazing speakers, and learned more about African-American history, the list just goes on. I have been a member of the debate team, Sigma alpha pi (Society for leadership and Success), Friends of the Earth, SCEA (South Carolina Education Association) and SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise). Growing up, I always knew that I wanted to have a career helping people. Over the years Ive wanted to become a nurse, journalist, lawyer, etc. However, it wasnt until I matriculated to Claflin University that I realized I wanted to become a teacher. Over the years Ive had effective and not so effective teachers. The teachers who were not effective taught me what not to do. I learned you had to be flexible because every student is different. Everyone doesnt learn the same way or at the same rate, and you have to try and make learning fun. Learning new content shouldnt feel like a chore. Children should come to class prepared and ready to learn. In conclusion, my experience with the not so effective teachers has made me want to become a teacher so I can help children reach their fullest potential. I want to make learning fun because if learning is fun then the students will be attentive and try to soak up as much knowledge as they can because they wont see learning as a chore.
