Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS)

Deadline for Registration: March 15, 2013 The Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) Provider Course is an eight-hour course for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, therapists, and paramedics. The course provides guidelines in the assessment and management of the burn patient during the rst 24 hours post injury. Following a series of lectures, case studies are presented for group discussions. An opportunity to work with a simulated burn patient to reinforce the assessment, stabilization, and the American Burn Association transfer criteria to a Burn Center will be given. Final testing consists of a written exam and a practical assessment return demonstration.

Deadline for Registration: March 15, 2013 This three hour block of instruction will serve as an introduction to Tactical Emergency Medical Services (TEMS). Students will be given an overview of Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC), National Tactical EMS Initiative Council (NTIC) domains, and the Committee for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (C-TECC) domains through the use of lecture, hands on skills stations, and culminating in a group scenario where the students will put into practice what they have learned.

Preplanning, assessment, technology, transport and emergencies in the special needs patient can be overwhelming and frightening for all involved. This course will o er a comprehensive look into the care and transport of a special needs patient through resources, knowledge, exposure and hands on exercises. This course is designed for all levels of EMS personnel. This program is a collaborative e ort with instruction provided by the Department of Public Health - Injury Prevention, EMS-C, and Safekids.

Opening Keynote Address - Brian Boyle: Ironheart: The true story of how I came back from the dead. Author and inspiration, Brian Boyle, will share his story that has made national news and touched many peoples lives.

Closing Keynote Address - Patrice Buckner-Jackson: The Great Balancing Act: How to be all things to all people without losing your mind! This session will o er practical tools for taking care of all your responsibilities without losing sleep over them.

Deadline for Registration: March 15, 2013 This course has been developed to provide a hands-on, how-to course for health professionals as they manage the pre-hospital and hospital care of the stroke patient. Goal: Stroke is the third leading cause of death and the leading cause of disability in the U.S. This course will examine assessment mechanisms and early treatments to limit the risk of disability due to stroke.

Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital has been dedicated to delivering the highest standard of care to burn center patients and their families. Through our e orts, we have successfully attracted and retained one of the most experienced burn center teams in the Southeast. With our 70-bed unit and admission of more than 3,000 patients annually from throughout the Southeast, we are nationally recognized as a leader in burn research and treatment. It will also address working with credit bureaus, dealing with bankrupt patients, and coping with nancial hardship issues. And nally, this session will cover the issues ambulance providers will need to address in order to ensure they receive proper reimbursement from Medicaid and Medicaid managed care.
