Math 1O2O Proiect

Name: Ana Mae Schulman You may do this project individually or group of no more than three people.

Answer all questions. Turn in answers to question 1-10 as a group.

Suppose 49o/o and 210lo solutions are available. Your goal is to make LL of 29o/o

solution and veriff that strength is correct. V=600mI

B=75

N=35
S=15

L. 2. 3.

Interpret the percent strength

49o/o

= 491t00

Interpret the percent strength Zto/o= 2L/L00 Interpret the percent strength
29o/o=

2B/L00

4.

Describe how you mix 49o/o and Zto/o solutions to get 1L of solution.= V1000m1

5. 6.

How many mlof 49o/o solution do you use? 200 How many grams of pure drug are there in the above volume. Round to the nearest tenth. 1509

7.
B.

How many ml.ZLo/o solution do you use? 400m1 How many grams of pure drug are there in above volume. Round to the nearest tenth. 609

g.

Find the sum of the number of grams of pure drug from 49o/o and2Lo/o

solutions.2!09

10. How many grams of pure drug are there in 1L of 2B7o solution? 2109
11. A) Yes the last

two questions agree. It means finding the sum of the number

of grams of pure drug from 49o/o and 210lo solutions, are the same as finding

how many grams of pure drug there are in 1L of 280lo solutions, as we have
noticed the answers are both 210grams. Is medical math more important than a passing grade? Why or why not? Medical math is much more important than just passing grade. Medical Professionals use math everyday while providing health care for people around the

world. Medical math can be simple such

as

converting vitals or height and weight

measurements to metric system, or it can be challenging such as determining

appropriate dosage and rates of drug administration. Today, the concepts and theories of mathematics are being applied to almost all aspects of medical sciences.

It is important that care providers feel they are safe when caring for patients.
Regularly doctors write prescriptions to their patients for various ailments.

Prescriptions indicate a specific medication and dosage in milligram (mg) per

kilogram (kg). Doctors need to figure out how many milligrams of medication each
patient will need, depending on their weight If the weight of patient in in pounds, doctors need to convert that measurement to kilograms and then find the amount of

milligrams for the prescription. Doctors must also consider how long the medicine

will stay in the patient's body. This will determine how often the patient needs to
take

t}eir medication in order to keep a sufficient amount of medicine in the body.

Other medical professionals such as nurses and pharmacists need to know certain calculations when preparing and administering IV medications, oral liquid

medications, nutritional supplements and pills. These calculations can be dangerous

to patients if not used correctly. Medication delivery is also one of the most significant responsibilities of physicians, nurses and pharmacists. A good pharmacist can catch the mistake of physician. A good nurse can catch the mistake
of a physician and pharmacist. Nurses are the final barrier between a patient and a

medication so it is very important that they are knowledgeable and attentive to detail when preparing and administering medications. Understanding dosage conversions, abbreviations, and many other parts learned in this course are applied to the medical industry. We learn these things for
many great reasons, besides just for passing grade. Mathematics plays a crucial role

in medicine and because people's lives are involved, it is very important for nurses,
and doctors to be very accurate in their mathematical calculations. Numbers

provide information for doctors, nurses and patients. Numbers are a way of communicating information, which is very important in the medical field.
