Importance of communication

Knowledge and information are essential for people to successfully respond to the opportunities and challenges of social, economic and technological changes. But to be useful, knowledge and information must be effectively communicated to people.

More than 850 million people in developing countries are excluded from a wide range of information and knowledge, with the rural poor in particular remaining isolated from both traditional media and new information and communication technologies which would improve their livelihoods.

The most importance aspect of any business is healthy and effective communication. Proper communications are the building blocks of all the professional relationships. Both verbal communication and nonverbal one are important when it comes to business. Communication is also critical to agriculture and rural development. It is important enough that advanced college degrees are devoted to it. The Agriculture Extension Service was established to communicate the research findings of scientific research to the farmer where it is put into practice. Without this type of communication farming would still be in the slash and burn practices still used in some third world countries. Advancement in technology is also crucial in developing communication. Today, Communication is widely developed in India. Telephone service, electronic mail, cellular phones, Internet, voice mail, letters, courier services and many others constitute the modern modes of communication.

While other forms of communication lead to economic development, mass communication is responsible for shaping the values, ideals and ideas of the society. It changes the way people respond to situations and also unifies them in times of crisis. Its goals are to" promote grassroots, non-violent, socially responsible, ecologically sensitive, personally empowering, democratic, dialogical and humanistic forms of communication". Communication is also essential for true democracy which needs transparency. Transparency means we need to know that is going on. It ensures accountability. If we know what is going on, then we can monitor and evaluate and hold those in charge accountable.
