Withinthetechnologyrelatedcoursesthereisanimplicitidea thatanythinglearnedthereincanbeappliedandbuiltuponin furtherstudyandpracticebutthereisnotastrongnextstep suggestionorcomponentattheendoftheclasses. ThestructureandlayoutofthecoursesItookmadeitpossible tolayoutaplanofstudyforthesemester.IfeelthatIhad enoughtimetocompleteevendifficultassignmentsandseek assistanceifitwasneeded.Iappreciatedthatmostofthe coursesrequiredsomeformofgroupworkasthatseemstobe

thewaymostworkinmylibraryisaccomplished,asoneina groupratherthaneachpersonworkingontheirownprojectsat alltimes. Thetechnologycenteredcourseswereespeciallyusefuland wellrun.Thecombinationoftheoryanddemonstrationaswell asthestepbystepdirectionsmademyfirstintroductionto thesetypesofprojectsenjoyableandapproachable,ifnot alwayseasy.Ithinktheonlinemodelisappropriateforthistype ofworkasitmadeiteasytoreviewinformationatanytime whenIstruggledwithasteporprocess. Thecombinationofstructureandflexibilityofthedegree requirementsmadeiteasytoensureIhadenoughofabasic understandingofkeyelementsatthecoreofmydegreewith enoughflexibilityintheelectivestofeellikeIcouldexploresome aspectsoftheprogramwithoutdriftingtoofarofftrack.

IwaskeenlyawarethatIwasanonlinestudentwhenitcame tocareerrelatedassistance,the502presentations,course counselling,andinteractingwithstudentgroups.Ialwaysfelt invitedtoeventsandgoingsonbutitalwaysfeltlikeIwas shoehornedinasanexceptiontotheinpersonstudentmodel ratherthanhavingeventsandopportunitiescreatedforthe environmentIspentmostofmytimein.Ivaluemytimespent indistancelearningenvironmentsandIthinkthatifIgetthe chancetobeanembeddedlibrarianinadistanceclassinthe futurethisexperiencewillhelpmegreatlybutIdliketosee somemoreoptionsdirectedtowarddistancestudentsinoutof theclassroomassistanceandmentorship.Ihadenoughhelp toaccomplishagreatdealscholasticallybutthesocialaspect andthechancetointeractwithmypeerswaslacking. Acoupleofcoursesmayneedtohavetheirsyllabus examined,muchoftheinformationfeltasthoughithadntbeen updatedsincethelate90s,theprofessors,thoughpolitedidnot offermuchintermsofnewtrendsanduptodateinformation aboutwhatwasgoingoninthefieldanddidnotseemtoexhibit thesamecommitmenttothecoursethatsomeofmymore
