The local florist and his wife had a sense of humor when naming their children, three daughters and a son. Their oldest daughter, Lilly, didnt mind being named after a flower. Sylvia, her best friend, said that Lilly was a normal girls name, too. By the time their second daughter was born, the florist and his wife got more creative. They named her after the Chrysanthemum, the florists favorite flower. Although it was an unusual name, she didnt really mind it either. Most of her friends just called her Chrissy. By the time that daughter number three arrived, her parents decided to be truly unusual. They named her Delphinium. This youngest daughter, the one who also proved to be the sweetest of the girls, was called simply Della by her friends. When they had their final child, a son, they scratched their heads and didnt know what to do. It just seemed wrong to name a boy after a flower. Looking around the floral shop, the florists eyes alit on something that gave him an idea. The unlikely plant, a cactus, made the florist think of a name more suited to a boy. They brought their newborn son, Saguaro, home and showed him to his three sisters. Della thought that they should have named him Rose, a flower that was as pink and wrinkly as he was. Saguaro, a boy who was not much to look at as a newborn, turned out to be a handsome young man. His father loved to tell everyone about his son, the late bloomer.
