(Adapted from Virginia Tech English Department Faculty www.faculty.english.vt.edu/Collier/3764/assign/resclpeer.doc)

To improve your resumes, we will review a classmates resume and provide some feedback. 1. Find a classmate and switch resumes. 2. Write your classmates name: ___________________ 3. First, read over your classmates resume. Second, read the resume again and provide feedback on the following questions. Write directly on this sheet of paper. Resume 1. Suggest any ways the visual layout of the document could be improved. (A few good rules of thumb: the most important headings are in bold; your name is the biggest part of the page; no more than three fonts are used).

2. Is there an objective statement or a position/profile statement? How could it be improved?

3. Suggest any way the description of the previous job duties (more detail or use of active verbs like managed, maintained, and advised,.,) could be improved.

4. Read the resume carefully looking for any grammatical errors. Grammar is more flexible on resumes, so do all bulleted items end with a period? If not, do none of the items end with a period? Are there any weird marks on the resume?

5. Read the resume carefully, marking any syntax or wording errorsare all terms that should be spelled out actually spelled out? Is jargon used correctly?

6. Look at the resume you now have and mark any other concerns you have. For example, is information listed in reverse chronological order? Should the person cut some information? Add information? How would you change this if it were your resume?
