    Horsehair Worm

    People once thought horsehair worms were hairs from a horses tail that had come alive. The reality is much grosser: A young horsehair worm bores through an animals skin, or enters its food, and then spends its childhood squirming around inside its host animal. This adult horsehair worm has left its host behind to find a mate.
