The Inquisition

From, extremely powerless, to extremely powerful, the Church dominated the world. The Pope had his three-crowned tiara, symbolizing his reign on Heaven, Earth, and under the earth. This prestige, glory and power of the Papacy had gone very far from the humble beginnings of Her Founder, a son of poor carpenter who walked our wounded and sinful roads with his simple garments. His friends mostly were the least, the last and the lost. Now the clergy, the followers of Christ and the Supreme Pontiff is wearing expensive vestments and using precious metal vessels for the liturgy. Aside from these, the image of a homeless Son of Man became majestic Cathedrals and Basilicas. Having all these temporal powers, the Church used the iron hand to eradicate the widespread of heresies. This is called the Inquisition. Inquisition came from the Latin word inquerere which means to ask or to inquire This is a court established to suppress heresies. The Early Christians used good example at first. Then the change came when the Holy Roman Empire declared Christianity as the state religion.
