I seek a social studies position within secondary education. It is my firm belief that a joining of student-driven learning and direct instruction, backed by data-driven results, provides the best educational environment for productive learning. I pursue the privilege of being part of an educational community that contributes to the great endeavor of preparing the next generation for the future. Experience Grand Ledge High School 820 Spring Street, Grand Ledge, MI 48823 2012-2013 In the 2012-2013 school year, I interned for a full-year and taught economics for the entirety of my internship. During my lead teaching, I taught two classes of economics and and one class of civics, for a 10 week span, under a trimester system. On a periodic basis, I would also teach a government class. I interned under two exemplary mentor teachers who were both individually active within the community, as the head football coach and head wrestling coach. Portland Middle School 745 Storz Avenue, Portland, MI 48875 2011-2012 Twice a week, I observed and assisted the teacher of a sixth-grade social studies class. Everett High School 3900 Stabler Street, Lansing, MI 48910 Fall 2010 I tutored a student in reading, with the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I observed a high school social studies class in operation. Sexton High School 102 McPherson Avenue, Lansing, MI 48915 Spring 2010 I tutored in a help room and observed a freshman level social studies class in operation. Additional Experience Archery Coach I am certified by the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) as an Archery Instructor. I coached, on a weekly basis, with the Grand Ledge Archery Team. The team will be competing at the 2013 NASP National Championship in Louisville, Kentucky. Chess Coach During the 2012-2013 school year, I started a chess club at Grand Ledge High School, which met on a weekly basis. Football Scout During the 2012 season, I traveled and filmed high school football games for the Grand Ledge Athletic Department. Food Pantry Director In April 2007, I founded and directed a food pantry that grew to assist an average of 35 families month at the end of my tenure. I continue to volunteer regularly as it has grown to assist an average of 60 families a month. Eagle Scout I am deeply tied to my local community, and place a strong sense of value upon community-based outreach. These values have been ingrained upon me throughout my life and will continue to guide my life.
