Professional Portfolio Artifact(s) Reflections Cover Sheet PLO: Apply ethical standards and professional behaviors that demonstrate

understanding and knowledge, deepening the commitment to the early care and education profession. The Artifacts I have included to demonstrate my competence in PLO 5 include:
Self Reflections (CHDV 210) NAEYC Code of Ethics Scenarios (CHDV 210)

I. Explanation: How is the content of these artifacts used to demonstrate my competence in this PLO and what specific knowledge, skills, or belief systems are demonstrated?
As I was doing my self-reflections for my activities I started to get an idea of what the

children found boring. I already had basic knowledge on what they liked from being in the classroom. As I was filling out my evaluations, I noticed that even though my activities went well. They had a lot to improve. I used the skills that I had learned from my first activities, in order to change my second activities. For example, in some activities, there were materials that the children didnt use, so to create less of a distraction, I removed those materials the second time. I believe that all teachers should constantly do evaluations of her own work in order to improve her activities and her teaching skills.
While doing my Code of Ethics scenarios, I learned that we actually have a handbook of

guidelines with a code of ethics. These scenarios helped reinforce beliefs that, which I think most people already have. These guidelines just take me out of any doubt that I may have on how to act upon an ethical dilemma. I gained the skills of how and when to use this handbook. I believe that every teacher should know and respect these guidelines. II. Growth: How do these artifacts demonstrate my growth in knowledge and skill?
Once I implemented my Teacher in Charge activities, I already knew what the children

liked, and didnt like. I knew what interested them the most and what didnt. I used this knowledge to carefully choose my activities. My skills grew a lot and I noticed a difference when I did my Teacher in Charge. I was able to control the group better and my evaluations had more strong points than weak points. My beliefs have remained the same, every teacher should evaluate their activities in order to grow and learn.
Since I did my dilemmas assignments, the ethical guidelines have been fresh in my mind.

I have tried a lot more now to go by the guidelines. I have become more familiar with them. My skills in implementing have also grown. For example now I find myself asking other children about their culture. I listen to them and I try to show them that their culture

is important even if they are the only ones in the center of that culture. My beliefs have only changed in the sense that teachers should not only know and respect the core value, but they should also believe them.

III. Application: How am I going to build on the knowledge and skill that is demonstrated (In other words, what are your next steps?) and how will this knowledge, skill, or belief system be integrated into my future teaching practice.
I will apply the knowledge I learn from my self evaluations, by changing up my

activities as necessary in order to meet all of my objectives. This will also help the children because they will get more of an experience from well thought out activities. I will expand on my knowledge by attending any workshops or training that may help me when I evaluate my activities.
I will apply the knowledge I have gained through the code of ethics any time that I come

up in situation where I may not know what steps to take next. I will also go by these guidelines everyday in my classroom, in order to model ethical skills to my children. I will grow in my knowledge of these values by attending any workshops that may introduce any new guidelines or that may help me interpret the guidelines better.
