Review the DDI model adopted by NYS Analyze assessment data Perform role plays for data analysis meeGngs Connect data analysis to acGon Begin planning your rst steps to implement DDI

Overview of DDI Model

4 Components
Assessment Analysis AcGon Data-Driven Culture

Data Analysis
Teacher-owned Test in hand (and data report) Deep thoughMul analysis Global impressions Dig in squint

Global Impressions
Global conclusions you can draw from the data:
How well did the class do as a whole? What are the strengths and weaknesses in the standards:

where do we need to work the most?

How did the class do on old vs. new standards? Are they

forgeYng or improving on old material?

How were the results in the dierent quesGon types Who are the strong/weak students?

(mulGple choice vs. open-ended, reading vs. wriGng)?

Dig In
Squint - deeper conclusions you can draw from the data:
Bombed quesGonsdid students all choose same wrong

answer? Why or why not? other?

Compare similar standards: Do results in one inuence the Break down each standard: Did they do similarly on every

quesGon or were some quesGons harder? Why? separate procient / non-procient students? occurring with certain students?

Sort data by students scores: Are there quesGons that Look horizontally by student: Are there any anomalies

Lets practice!
Using the assessment and data provided, take a few

minutes to conduct an analysis. Be sure to look at global impressions rst, and then dig in a liale deeper.

Key Principles of Data Analysis Meetings

Let the data do the talking. Let the teacher do the talking. Always go back to the test and back to specic quesGons. Dont ght baales on ideological lines. Youve got to know the data yourself to have an eecGve

meeGng.

Make sure the analysis is connected to a concrete acGon plan. There is a dierence between the 1st assessment and the 3rd.

Data Analysis Meeting: Role Play

Determine two pairs at your table. Pair #1 Teacher One the good teacher Teacher Leader One IT member Pair #2 Teacher Two the other teacher Teacher Leader Two dierent IT member

Debrieng the Role Play

What did you learn about the teachers? How did the interim assessment and data report change

the dynamic of a normal conversaGon between a teacher and his/her principal (teacher leader)?

What are the strengths and limitaGons of this approach? What structures would you need in place to allow this

process to happen?

Analysis to Action: Man on Fire

What made Creasys analysis eecGve? Ajer a solid analysis, what made the acGon plan eecGve?

Analysis to Action: Mr. Hollands Opus

What made the dierence? How did Lou Russ nally learn

to play the drum?

What changed Mr. Hollands aYtude and acGons?

Key Principles of Action Plans

PLAN: Develop new lessons ACTION: Implement what you plan (dates, Gmes,

standards, etc.)

ONGOING ASSESSMENT: Conduct in-the-moment checks

for understanding to ensure progress

ENGAGED STUDENTS: Students know the end goal, how

they did, and what acGons theyre taking to improve classroom observaGons, in-class assessments, etc.

ACCOUNTABILITY: Observe changes in lesson plans,

Best Next Steps

Determine 2012-2013 calendar for IT meeGngs Monthly, every 2 months, etc. Determine a rollout of DDI for your enGre building 2-year phase, 5 year phase, etc. Assessment creaGon, analysis meeGngs, etc. Departments, grade levels, etc. Ajer determining the building rollout, determine steps for

phase 1 of rollout.
