Slaveryhashadmanydebatesandcompromises.OneofthebiggestwastheMissouri compromise.Thiscompromisewasmadein1820andhelpedMainebecomeafreestateand Missouriaslavestate.Thisregulatedslaveryinthewesternareas.Itwaslaterrevokedas congressdidnthavetheauthoritytoaddressslaveryintheterritories.

Anothercompromise madewasin1850whichmadeCaliforniapartoftheunionandafreestate.Slaveswhere requiredtoconvertfromtheirownreligionintoChristianity.Theywherereluctanttoconvert becausetheydidnotwanttodriftawayfromtheirownreligion. TheAfricanAmericanshavecontributedgreatlytotheendofslaveryandcertainfactors ofslavery.DuringslaveryAfricanAmericanskepttheirtraditionsandculturealivebyusingthem Onewasthedrum,theAfricanAmericansusedthemtocommunicatewithoneanother.After theywerefreedtheytriedtohelpabolishslaverytoenditforgood.Someabolitionistswere FrederickDouglassandHarrietTubman.Afterthewarandslavery,theyfacedharshchallenges suchasracismandsegregation.Althoughthiswasagreateconomicalperiodforthewhites,it wasthedarkesttimefortheAfricanAmericans. SlaveryobviouslyhelpedAmericaeconomically.Slaveryproducedabigprofitasmore supplywasabletobeproducedbecauseofmorepeopleworking.Italsocreatedaclasssystem inthesouth.Theplantationownerswouldbethehighestinthesystemandtheslavesandfree AfricanAmericanswouldbeatthebottom.Americaalsocooperatedwithothercountriestostart aslavetradewhichproducedevenmoremoney.Americasslaveryhoweverwasmuchworse thananyothercountry.SlaveryinAmericawasmuchmoreviolentandhadmoreadverse conditionsforAfricanAmericansthaninothercountries.Anothereconomicalvalueofslavery wasthatitallowedusefulinventionstobemadelikethecottonginwhichcouldgreatlyspeedup productionandmeetthedemand.Whenslaveryendedthosemachinesweremadetoreplace slavessomoneycouldstillbemadeandthedemandcouldbemet. Thisiswhyslaverywassuccessfultoacertainpointbutdeservedtobeended.Our nationstruggledwithallthetensionbutthrivedwithalltheincomecomingfromslavery.This explainswhyitwassuchaharddecisiontodecidewhetherornottohaveslaveryexiststill. Manypeoplesharethesamethoughtasmethatslaverywasabolishedandthatitwastheright decisiontomake.SlaverywasanimportanttimeintheUnitedStateshistorythathappenedfora certainamountoftimebutnowhasvanishedforgood.
