Knauth & Salmon Assessing Student Learning Through Data During winter lead teach we were focusing a great a great deal on Data and how it can drive our instruction. For me this concept seemed somewhat foreign initially. I was unsure about a few different things: how do I collect this data, how is my data an adequate representation of what kids know, and how would this information help me drive my instruction. The critical component, for me, was the idea of that driving force. Primarily because all my planning had already been completed for my 12 day lead teach. I continuously thought about all the time and planning I had don; the idea of having to possibly scrap all of my plans made me a little apprehensive. The assessments reflected in my paper are from my Winter Lead Teach Reading Unit on Character Motivation. The text that we used was the novel We Beat the Street, and by F & P standards the text was a level W. I think this is important to note because my students fall on a wide spectrum of reading levels and not all of them can read this this text on their own. To remedy this as a class we listened too a prerecorded version (myself reading the text). My data represents two different classes; the purple group, which are the higher performing students, and the green group, which are my students that struggle in both reading and behavior. The Common Core Standard that my assessment was aligned to was:

8.RL.6- Analyze how differences in the points of view of the characters and the audience or reader create effects such as suspense, humor, etc.

The objectives that I focused on were: SWBAT Define Motivation (O1) Distinguish between Goals and motivation (02) Identify internal and external motivation (03) Recognize the difference between motivation and action (04) Analyze character motivation (05)

The first assessment I will discuss is my purple group. These again are the higher performing students that read and comprehend higher F & P leveled texts. This representation is not only my data, but also my student work. I decided to use an iPad application called Socrative. This is an in the moment exit ticket that allows
