WHAT IS HSS
Uses ULTRASONIC
WAVES.
Produces sound in the air
indirectly.
Provide control of volume
and placement.
Highly directional.
Frequency greater then
16khz.
Sound waves travel as
concentric hollow
spheres. 2
HISTORY
Before 1960 SCUBA DIVERS & NAVAL SUBMARINES
used modulated ultrasound for underwater
communication.
After 1960-> Non-linear interaction of ultrasound waves.
Panasonic, NC Demon & Ricoh followed this interaction.
End of 1980-> technique was depraved.
1990-> WOODY MORRIS got the solution.
Used by COCA-COLA in TOKYO.
Used by US ARMY.

HSS V/S LOUSPEAKER
Loudspeakers are direct
radiating whereas HSS are
not.
HSS does not need woofers,
tweeters & enclosures
whereas LS rely on these.
Loudspeakers suffer from
crossover distortion & HSS
does not.

TECHNOLOGY
WORKING-
Non-linearity of air.
Origin- Tartini tones.
Sound from non-linear air is audible.
Generation of 2 new tones with 2 sources closely placed
together.
