ELC LOGO GOES HERE) Old Suttonians English Language Centre Adult Phonics Courses Course Level 1 Introduction to English Phonics Level 1 is an intensive, fast-paced course in the phonics of the English Language. Derived from the proven 42 Phonics system, this course uses similar methods but relies on the principle that adult learners can absorb information more quickly than children, with less fun-and-games. At the end of this course, a learner will be able to sound out most of the words of the English language with an understandable level of accuracy, even without knowing their meaning. The course also teaches a few basic conversational English phrases and words that will enable basic, polite interaction with Native English speakers upon meeting them for the first time. Course Level 2 Developing Oral Skills Level 2 is a series of elocution lessons designed for students who have completed Level 1, or who show a proficiency level equivalent to those who have. The course is designed to fine-tune a students pronunciation and get rid of the tell-tale signs of a foreign accent. Derived from Century Business Englishs Phonetics textbook, the course focuses primarily on making further distinctions between sounds in English which non-native speakers often pronounce too similarly to one another. At the end of this course, a student should be able to read English words with a level of phonetic accuracy that enables clear understanding by a foreign speaker, without having to repeat themselves. It also further develops the conversational English skills taught in Level 1.
