June 2013

I am very excited to begin my formal career in the education field and have a classroom of my own. As I pursued my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from the College of Saint Rose, I also gained a wide variety of experience at the elementary school level. Currently I am working on my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I will be completing all of the degree requirements in October 2013. At a very young age, I often helped my mother prepare her classroom. I officially began my career when I entered a classroom in a high needs, urban school district as a one-on-one paraprofessional. I held this position for over two years while I continued taking courses to obtain my degree in elementary education. It was during this time that I gained most of my experiences assisting in both traditional and special education classrooms; tutoring students and chaperoning field trips, dances and other extracurricular events. Since then, I filled in as a long term substitute in a fifth grade and second grade classroom. I believe my strengths in the classroom include my relationship with students, establishing expectations, integrating cross curriculum teaching, utilizing technology as well as being aware I am part of a bigger picture. Since students learn differently, I like implementing creative ideas that allow students to shine in some manner. I gain the sense my students feel physically, emotionally and socially safe and respected in the classroom. Currently my second grade students work hard, however, we do so in engaging ways that allows each student to excel, share part of who s/he is and gain a sense of accomplishment and success. Through the combination of these practices, I am able to grasp student comprehension both during formal and informal assessments. I believe that my student teaching experiences combined with my longer term experiences helped me develop my own personal philosophies on education and create my own classroom management style. I feel that these characteristics along with my willingness and eagerness to learn would make me a welcomed addition to your school. Enclosed please find a copy of my resume. Upon request, I will forward an official copy of my transcript, additional references, letters of recommendation, and my portfolio. I look forward to speaking with you. Thank you for your consideration. Respectfully yours, Robert J. Casino
