Fair Exhibitor Expectations

Country Fair: See calendar on http://etnaffa.weebly.com/ for date. Time: 6-8 pm, meeting at 7:00 PM, Scott Valley Pleasure Park All exhibitors and Parents attend for information about the Siskiyou Golden Fair.
Contracts will be given out and discussed (Sign & Turn In). If you missed mandatory 1 st year meeting. Serves as a makeup meeting. Showmanship practice and current weights. Quality Assurance Training for members (First Time or Update).

All exhibitors will enter and perform in their showmanship class.


Timing Discussed about Fitting and other show tips.

Steers/Heifers (Beef) must attend and must be halter broke you will have a three week grace period to get your animal gentled or you will not be allowed to show at the fair. Lambs should attend in order to obtain a current weight and possibly be sheared, if needed. Pigs do not attend due to heat stress and disease. Send out buyer letters. If you received an exhibitor packet (beef, swine, or sheep handbook) it has samples. You will also find samples on our website http://etnaffa.weebly.com/. Have a thank you letter for your buyer & we suggest a buyers gift for the day of the auction. The chapter will have Etna FFA t-shirts & hats you can buy for your buyer at fair. Hoof Trimming: See calendar on http://etnaffa.weebly.com/ for date. Time: 8 am - 12 pm at the Nash Ranch Beef animals hooves will be trimmed, current weights, and showmanship practice. Group Fitting: See calendar on http://etnaffa.weebly.com/ for date. Time: 6-8 pm at the School Farm Beef animals will be roughly fitted in preparation for fair, final weight, and final showmanship practice. We will pass out clippers a few weeks before fair. Use the weigh list to call the closet person, with the same fair animal, to pass the clippers on to. Swine & sheep exhibitors only have one full day to clip/shear at fair plus limited outlets, so we recommend clipping early. Beef exhibitors will have two days. See the calendar for fair schedule of events. If you are the last one with the clippers please bring them to FAIR Beef Exhibitors: Clean up bellies, chests, heads, tops, and tails of beef animals with clippers. Swine Exhibitors: Your hog will need to be clipped a half inch, use the blades on the clippers. Sheep Exhibitors: Shearing lambs TBA. You will need to wash your lamb good before clipping. All last year buyers will receive buyer dinner tickets in the mail. If your buyer this year was not a buyer last year, you can buy them dinner tickets at the fair office. Maybe send out dinner tickets with your buyer letter. All last year buyers will receive buyer breakfast tickets in the mail. If your buyer this year was not a buyer last year, you can buy them breakfast tickets for $2-$3 at the fair office. Maybe send out breakfast tickets with your buyer letter. Time: from 6-8 pm at the EHS Ag Shop Members will prepare Educational Boards, Sign-up for Barn and Pepsi Booth duties, check or make Name Signs, and load fair equipment.

The Committee Chair is the club Historian & Reporter and all his/her Committee members are expected to attend starting Sunday at 9AM. Please plan on completing the set up by Monday by 5pm. Time: 8 am 12 pm at the Siskiyou Golden Fair Grounds All Exhibitors will arrive with the designated time for each species and setup pens. Swine- 8 am Beef- 9am Sheep & Goat- 9:30 am Animal Delivery: See calendar on http://etnaffa.weebly.com/ for date. Time: 8 am 10 pm at the Siskiyou Golden Fair Grounds All Animals must be on Fair Grounds on Tuesday, New Fair Rule. Transportation: If you need assistance with transportation, talk to you advisors at least one week prior to the fair. Fair Week: See calendar on http://etnaffa.weebly.com/ for fair dates. All Exhibitors must attend all meetings, showmanship, barn and Pepsi booth duties- if applicable, and feedings according to the contract discussed at the Country Fair. Pepsi Booth: If Etna FFA runs the Pepsi Booth as a fundraiser. Every exhibitor will work a minimum of two shifts. Please feel free to sign up for more! Sign-ups will be at our work nights. The officers will train you when are scheduled to work. All Exhibitors must follow all fair rules (New and Old), be a Runner at the Auction, be Professional, and Put the Animals Health as a Priority!!!!!! Weighing of Animals- Wednesday see etnaffa.weebly.com Calendar for times Showmanship Practice during Fair Beef & Sheep: see etnaffa.weebly.com Calendar Barn Duty Exhibitors must serve scheduled barn duties, which include being on time, keeping the animal pens, aisles, and tack areas clean and watering animals at least once during their shift. Each infraction of these responsibilities will result in an additional barn duty. A Three Strike discipline system is used by the Etna FFA advisors. Any student failing to fulfill the obligations of the project in accordance to the rules and guidelines set forth by the project advisor will receive a strike. Infractions include, but not limited to, missing a project meeting/weigh day without prior notice, neglect of animal (not feeding on time, pen not cleaned, etc.) failure to perform required duties before and/or during the fair. Once a student has received three strikes, he/she forfeits his/her privileges to show with Etna FFA and sell at the livestock auction. If you cant make barn duty for a valid reason (must be cleared by an advisor), you may switch with another Etna FFA exhibitor in your barn. Beef Exhibitors All exhibitors will arrive at the barn by 7AM. Arrive by 6AM on show day. Animals should be tied out and fed first. Exhibitors will lead and water animals & lastly rinse animals.

All others will muck and bed down pens. Exhibitors will brush each animal down. If duties are not finished by 8AM, then exhibitors will arrive at 6:30AM the next morning. 12PM- all exhibitors arrive to lead, water, clean, and brush. 6PM- all exhibitors water, grain, and hay. Barn Duty: Two hour shifts- two exhibitors each shift. Keep tools on the racks and keep tack room clean (take trash to trash cans) Sweep aisles Bring equipment back after use Sheep/Goat Exhibitors Arrive by 7:30AM to feed, water, and to clean pen (7AM if you cant finish by 8AM). Arrive at 7AM or earlier on show day. Each exhibitor will be assigned to walk through every two hours. Keep tools on the racks and keep tack room clean (take trash to trash cans) Sweep aisles Bring equipment back after use 12PM- all exhibitors arrive to lead, water, and clean. 6PM- all exhibitors water, grain, and hay. Swine Exhibitors Arrive by 7AM to rinse, clean pen, and feed/water (be finished by 8AM). (Remove all feed pans from pens before leaving) Arrive by 6:30AM on show day. 6PM- all exhibitors water and feed. (remove all feed pans from pens before leaving) Barn Duty: Each exhibitor will be assigned a two hour shift (two exhibitors each shift). Keep tools on the racks and keep tack room clean (take trash to trash cans) Sweep aisles Bring equipment back after use Water pigs * Be on time for all morning, afternoon, and evening responsibilities. Each infraction of these responsibilities will result in a consequence determined by your advisors. If you have a situation, communication is key, contact your advisor. Remember this is your animal and Mr. & Mrs. Hargett are there to support & mentor. Three Strike Discipline System Remember we have a Three Strike discipline system. Any student failing to fulfill the obligations of their project in accordance to the rules and guidelines set forth by the project advisor will receive a strike. Once a student has received three strikes, he/she forfeits his/her privileges to exhibit with the Etna FFA and sell. Thank You Letters/Record Book: Have a thank you letter for your buyer & we suggest a buyers gift for the day of the auction. The chapter has an Etna FFA t-shirts & Hats. Keep record of hours and money you spent on project. You can update your recordbook this summer by accessing your school account through the Etna HS website. Click on folders found in the toolbar on the right of the homepage. Whatever you dont finish during the summer, we will have a limited time during class to finish, so bring your records to school. Sunday -Auction and then Cleanup (around 5pm- we have to get an okay from the fair). Everyone needs to stay and help with cleanup. All barns need to be cleaned & all tack, equipment, etc. loaded. All tack, equipment, etc. needs to be unloaded at the school as well.

If youre using the school farm, it needs to be cleaned. All trash taken to the dumpster, pen cleaned, feeders rinsed, etc.
