in theater. Performance theatre class will push you out of your comfort zone as you learn more about yourself and the art and craft of theater. Primarily, we will use theater games, reading, watching and analyzing classic plays, and practicing our creative expression skills to expand our understanding of theatre as both an art and a craft.
I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being. Oscar Wilde

Our classes together will be a combination of short lessons, applied practice and workshops. That means that you will be required to do both performance and written work for this course.. The good news is that you can know what to expect every day (well, kind of, since theatre as an art form is all about creativity and flexibility). Every class period will begin with a warm-up activity Heres the schedule for what happens every day of the week: Monday = lesson & applied practice Tuesday = Rehearsals Wednesday = lesson & applied practice (Film day) Thursday = Rehearsals Friday = Lesson & applied practice (*rehearsals during play season)

Expectations 1. Come prepared 2. Be fully present and cooperative 3. Honor each individual 4. Trust the process

Goals

All students will demonstrate growth by at least one level in each category on performance rubrics by the end of the semester. We will present a full-length, professional-quality theatrical production.

Grading This is an upper-level course. As such, it is important to take all assigned work seriously, including daily participation, memorizing and rehearsing lines, as well as written assessments or even performances. Each week, you will receive a classwork/workshop grade based on your ratings on a performance rubric. Every few weeks, there will be a quiz over the lessons weve had or the plays weve been reading or watching. A final evaluative assignment will be given for each unit of study. This evaluation may be a written examination or a performance, depending on the unit of study. Project (tests, performances, written evals.) = 50% Quizzes & Exit Tickets = 20% Classwork/Workshop (weekly skills eval.) = 20% Homework (readiness for class)= 10% * You have the opportunity for one retake of any quiz or exit ticket or individual project . There are no retakes of unit exams or major performances.

Class Productions
At the end of the semester, we will present a full length theatrical production. Each performance theatre student will participate as a member of one or more crews.

There will be other smaller shows or presentations throughout the semester. Other classes, teachers and your parents will be invited to attend. Dont worry about being nervous or embarrassed. Youll be ready. :)
