Description of Levels of Course and Goals for each Level Awareness After completing the courses in the Awareness Level the candidates will have an understanding of what it takes to become a teacher. They will be familiar with the program requirements and standards they must attain before they graduate. They will explore what it means to be a teacher and determine what skills and abilities they will need to develop to become competent teachers. They will have developed an initial image of the kind of teacher they want to be and their beliefs about what good teaching is. They will have explored the physical and psychological development of students and examined the impact of families, culture, society, and government on students. They will know about conditions that impact learning and physical development. They will have explored current issues educators face and their historical foundations. They will develop general content knowledge in all disciplines and begin to develop specific content knowledge in their licensure area. Courses in this level are taken by candidates in all program and include: EDUC 203 PSY 204 or PSY 206 or CFS 206 EDUC 350 SPED 313 General Education Required Courses General Methods After completing the courses in the General Methods Level candidates will have a working knowledge of skills that all teachers need. They will have knowledge of the state and national standards in their specific licensure area and will be able to write clear objectives based on those standards. They will be able to write clear and specific lesson plans in which the objectives, strategies, and assessments are well aligned. They will have used lesson plans with individual and small groups of students. They will develop knowledge of effective strategies for managing a classroom. They will know strategies to differentiate learning to meet the needs of all students. They will be

familiar with teaching strategies and models to help students learn. They will be able to present material clearly and ask questions that will lead students to use high order and critical thinking skills. They will know ways that technology can help all students learn as well as ways to use technology to do the managerial tasks of teaching and grow professionally. Candidates will continue to develop specific content knowledge in their licensure area (major). Course in this level taking by all students: EDUC 204 Courses in this level taken by all licensure areas except Music Instrumental, Music Vocal, PE, FCS, Visual Arts: EDUC 403 Courses taken by all licensure areas except Music Instrumental, Music Vocal, Music Instrumental, and PE: EDUC 341 taken by Differentiated Learning and PreK-3 EDUC 342 taken by Middle Grades EDUC 450 taken by al 7-12 certifications, FCS 5-12, and Visual Arts Course taken by Differentiated Learning Only Psychology 404

Specific Content Methods After completing the courses in this level candidates will be able to implement general teaching strategies as well as strategies for teaching in their specific content area. They will be able to demonstrate their ability to positively effect learning. They will critically reflect on their teaching and be able to set goals to grow as a professional. They will continue to improve their ability to write effective lesson plans. They will have had experience teaching at least one lesson to a whole class of students. Courses in this area are different for all programs. The number of courses also vary. Following is a list of the number of courses in each program: Differentiated Learning 12 Middle Grades English 2 Music Instrumental 6 Music Vocal 3 PE 9 PreK-3 3 Visual Arts 2 The following programs have 1 course; Biology, Business, Chemistry, French, Government, History, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, Spanish, Theater

Application Candidates will complete this level when they have met all graduation and licensure requirements. They will be called, caring, and competent teachers who are able to positively impact student learning, critically reflect on teaching, and plan their own professional growth. Courses in this level include: Student Teaching Seminar Student Teaching Placement 1 Student Teaching Placement 2
