You are required to obtain your school computer login and password. 2 Binders, 1 Spiral Notebooks, Pencils, 10-12 blue/black pens, 2 Highlighters, Colored Pencils or crayons, USB ash drive. You are expected to bring your three-ring binder to class EVERY DAY, as well as a writing utensil and paper. Positive attitudes are encouraged. Failure to bring required materials to class shall result in immediate consequences. A variety of assessment methods will be used to determine your childs mastery of Grade Level Content Expectations. Your childs grade will be based on the completion of classwork, homework, projects and the assessments of these skills. Quarterly grades are based on total points, earned over the course of each ten-week quarter. No grading curve exists in the computation of quarterly or semester grades. The grading scale used for translating progress-, quarterly-, and semester grades is a straight scale.

We will be continuing to use the Positive Behavior System. Students will be rewarded for their positive behavior with tickets that can be used to redeem prizes and extra privileges. For students who chose to make poor decisions, they will be dealt with according to the Student Code of Conduct.

attendance

You are expected to attend all classes and be on time. When absent, it is your responsibility to nd out what you missed in class, complete it, and turn it in upon your return (within the number of excused school days absent). You are expected to show consideration, respect, and responsibility at all times and for all people. Displays of rudeness, disruption, unproductiveness, dishonesty, or inappropriate language and behavior will not be tolerated and you membership in this class will be affected. You will be marked tardy if you are not completely in the classroom when the bell stops ringing. Entering the classroom within the rst ve minutes will record you as tardy. You will be marked absent and prohibited from participating in class if you arriving without a pass more than ve minutes after the bell has rung. Use of electronic devices in class at inappropriate times is prohibited. Failure to follow this policy will result in immediate consequences. Assignments are expected to be turned in on time. You will be unable to turn in late work. Cheating in any form will not be tolerated. If you work with others on individual assignments, you will receive no credit for that work and a referral will be issued. You will be allowed ve (5) passes this semester. If you ask to leave the classroom at an inappropriate time, your request will be denied. I will excuse you at the end of the class period. The bell serves as my reminder to end class and does not mean that you are excused. Please check the area around your seat to make sure that you will not leave any of your belongings behind and that your area is left tidier than when you arrived.

All school-wide expectations not mentioned above will be enforced. You will be notied of any changes that may be made to this syllabus during the course of the semester. You will be held to a certain level of in-class participation, for the purposes of mental engagement with the content of the class and enjoyment during your time in Language Arts and/or Social Studies. You will earn a grade for the roles you play in review games and other activities. A loss of participation may result if you fail to abide by the expectations of my classroom, including, but not limited to, those listed on this syllabus.

For each unit, you will be expected to read all chapters on the specic area of study. Aspects of Geography will be used throughout the units and your knowledge and application of these principles will need to be demonstrated on a daily basis.

When students complete the course, they will be able to Use differing approaches and perspectives of different social scientists to better help us understand our world? Identify how the ve themes of geography help us investigate our world? Discern what makes an issue or problem global in scope? Determine what factors should we consider when using maps and why? How and why do people organize (categorize or regionalize) the world to study global issues or problems? How do the physical (natural) features and physical processes of Earth present challenges and opportunities for human societies? How and why does a natural hazard become a global natural disaster?
