Reflex Math
Our class was awarded a grant this year for a free subscription to a site called, ReflexMath.com. Our class has been logging on several times per week. The purpose of this site is to help them know their math facts like the back of their hand. If you have internet access at home they can log on there too! I can already see the progress they are making and I think this program is going to be a great tool to their success in math.

What are we working on?

Subject
Standards
NBT.1 -Recognize that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right NBT.2 - Read and write multi-digit whole numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. Compare two multi-digit numbers based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons. W.4.2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.

What does that mean?

We are working with numbers from 1-1,000,000. We are learning about place value and comparing numbers using >,<, and =. We are also learning that each time you move to the left in place value the quantity is ten times greater. We will be writing our numbers in the following ways:

Math

Standard form: 236 Expanded Form: 200+30+6 = 236 Word Form: Two hundred thirty-six

Language Arts

We have been busy gathering data on each students reading level and we are excited to begin our reading groups soon! We are beginning to explore writing an informative piece of writing. We are finishing up our study of the Idaho state symbols. We are currently working in groups to create posters about each symbol that will inform others about what we have learned.

Science/ Social Studies

SL.4.1 Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacherled) with diverse partners on grade 4 topics and texts, building on others ideas and expressing their own clearly

It is time once again for the Nampa Parks and Recreation Departments Harvest Classic Fun Run. In addition to raising money for scholarships for recreation programs, this fun run awards $2,000 to school PE Departments. We award eight $250 cash awards to the winning PE Departments to use at their discretion for equipment or supplies to benefit their students. When individuals register for the race, they are asked if they would like to designate a school. For every registrant that designates your school, your schools name will be placed in the drawing for the prize money. The more your name is in the drawing, the better your chances of winning! AND, you can win more than once!

To remove your name from our mailing list, please respond to this email and let me know that you would no longer like to receive these updates If you have any questions or comment you can respond directly to this email and Ill get back to you as soon as possible. I am looking forward to a great partnership between our classroom and you and I hope these emails will be an effective way to keep everyone informed. Thank you,

Mrs. Miller E
