ABSTRACT

The rim lug nuts special fixture is a device to solve the road users problem when faced with flat tire for their car. This design was created to facilitate the women and elderly when changing a flat tire. The basic device such as lug wrench was used to loosen the lug nuts and that device needs a lot of strength to operate. As a result, women and elderly find it difficult to change tire because the lugs nuts is too tight and the user waste a lot of time to change a flat tire. Hence, this project was intended to help people change a flat tire easily. This device is suitable for any motorist including men, women, elderly and teenagers. This rim lug nuts special fixture is a first device ever designed for this purpose. The design uses a gear concept to transfer and reduces the force to be applied. All the engineering calculation and analysing process were done to ensure that design is safe to use without failure. Another characteristic such as ergonomic and aesthetic are also considered during designing this project. Most important of all, this design must be simple when compare to the current device. It must also be small so that the device can be easily kept in the car. The metal such as aluminium alloy and steel were used to get the best structure for this rim lug nuts special fixture. The manufacturing process for these projects involves fabrication and machining process such as milling and turning. However, for this assembly this project just uses screw and nuts only. Finally this project considers the economics of design in the manufacturing process to ensure the minimum cost for the final product.
