Welcome!

It is a pleasure to have you in class this year. I am confident that you will improve your English proficiency in this class if you participate and study daily. Course Description: Students will build upon the English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills and support their use of English in their content area courses. Specific focus will be given to building vocabulary and academic writing. However, students will also study reading genres, grammar, author's perspective, and more. Objectives To become more proficient in both written and oral English To improve academic vocabulary and reading comprehension To support the students' first language and culture Supplies: A pen or pencil A translator or dictionary Expectations: I have high expectations for you in this class. I understand how difficult it can be to get out of your comfort zone and speak in front of people but the more you listen, speak, read, and write in English, the more you will succeed. Therefore, most of the class discussions will be conducted in English and I expect you to participate in daily opportunities to use English. Grading: All homework assignments must be completed BEFORE class begins and turned in daily. Unexcused late work will be worth 50% (per the school handbook.
