REFLECTION

According to the Oxford Dictionary, gangsters means a member or group of criminals or gangsters. Widespread gangsterism in schools is now more identified as a gang. According to Thrasher (1963), early adolescence, they have a higher tendency to form a gang. In the initial report in 1961, Thrasher also clarify that gang as a group that has the same characteristics as, appearance, action, conflict, and planning the next group of gang will eventually develop into a gang who often carry out activities that are anti- social (Azizi, Yusof and Rosnah, Case Study, UTM). In Malaysia, gangsterism is a hot issue that often reported in the newspaper. Most of gangsterism involving students in secondary schools and now has spread to primary school pupils. Joint study done by the Ministry of Education Malaysia with the Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation found that gangsterism is a serious misconduct that have influenced the students in secondary schools. The study also reported that there are three main factors causing the issue of gangsterism, family background, home environment and academic achievement. The first factor is a major factor involved in gangsterism is due to a poor family background or moderate. This is because parents are busy working for a living so the children neglected. As a result of the insistence of life, parents not paying enough attention to their children. Children who do not try to understand the situation of their parents are taking the easy way by joining gangsterism for luxury in a convenient way. There are also students involved in gangsterism is from a rich family groups. Because the parents are too busy working, the children is lack of love. They are given an extreme luxury and the luxury that they stuck with gangsterism as a way to express feelings or stress. They use wealth as attract other students' attention and set up the gangsters. In addition, environmental factors also cause to gangsterism. From exposure to the social diseases, has been encouraging students to establish the gang. Then they will try to influence other peers by means of force, intimidation and threatening. Students who have to follow initially, finally having fun with activities that do. Unconsciously, they continued to be involved with gangsterism. The next factor is the weakness in academic achievement. Too often we hear that students with low academic achievement is often neglected by parents, peers and teachers

sometimes too. By reason of not getting attention, they try to find a way to get the power to attract the attention of those around him. These students do not show respect to teachers, scolding and insulting others. By bringing together members of the same fate, they show the power and try to get the attention that they too can become famous. It is this pressure that led to them being absent foot and do outside of school gangsterism. According to case studies done by Dr. Azizi, Yusof and Rosnah (Case Study, UTM), although the percentage of students involved in gangsterism is a low average level, if not resolved, these symptoms may be an infectious disease outbreaks and make matters worse. It can affect victims whose lives can be miserable by gangsters and create chaos or problems to others. In addition, gangsterism give bad influence to students because of fear for school. It also might lead to vandalism and a problem to the person or neighborhood. Therefore, some basic points proposed for the parent or guardian for help or prevent students had engaged in gangsterism. The main thing is to nurture their children with love and respect. When physiological needs are met, then the children will feel safe and have a good emotion. With this, they can carry out their daily lives in a positive way and this is good for their future. Among other things other basis is to inculcate moral values and spirituality in a child's young age. With no values the children will come with strong spiritual respect for those around him. So, we will not hear another word about child rebellion, disrespect of parents, student teachers also wrong-bullying, bullying behaviour and vandalism. In addition, as parents and teachers, we can encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities and sports in schools. With the active involvement of students, they will be more busy daily routines to meet a more beneficial and healthy. Involvement in sports can actually help students to discipline themselves and to develop a quality personal character as well as offering a good healthy body and invigorate the mind. Could indirectly help students improve their academic performance. As parents or families of perfect with the psychological and physiological needs, must teach their children the value of money that not pamper them with luxury. Children should be taught and educated to be independent and try to get something they want. This will make them realize how precious life if their get the best for themselves by their own work. They will be more loving themselves and those people around him.

Setting rules is also important in shaping children's behaviour. As parents, they should insist on disciplining the children. Parents need to set rules for their children so that they do not come home too late at night or early morning. This is to prevent the children involved with social diseases such as gangsterism. In addition, parents should be concerned with changes in behavior of children, to identify partners for their children and to make checks to which their children often go. Never allow children to go to discos, snooker centre and game centre for places such as this can influence their behaviour. It was necessary to keep them away from gambling and the places of gangsters always hang out. In conclusion, especially parents and community members should be concerned with the general behaviour of young people now. Many factors can influence students to become gangsters or doing gangsterism. Gangsterism is a social phenomenon of concern that has become an epidemic that was spreading in schools. All parties such as parents, teachers, police, the community must work together to overcome, solve problems and issues related to combating gangsterism.
