ECG NOTES

LUMAGUI , MAYVELYN, M. D

The heart, located in the mediastinum. It is protected by the bony structures of the sternum anteriorly, the spinal column posteriorly, and the rib cage.

SINOATRIAL NODE (SA NODE)

-impulse-generating (PACEMAKER) tissue located in the right atrium of the heart -generator of the normal sinus rhythm -all of the hearts cells have the abilty to generate the electrical impulses (action potential) that trigger cardiac contraction, SA NODE normally initiates it; -Generates impulses slightly faster than the other areas with pacemaker potential -Cells in SA NODE discharges (create action potential) at about 60-100 bpm -responsible for the rest of the hearts electrical activity (Primary Pacemaker)

If SA node fails AV node AV node fails Purkinje fibers (bundle of his) Purkinje fibers do not normally control the heart rate; generate action potentials at a lower frequency than the SA or AV node
