Be a good listener! Krushnaa Patil is an Indian Mountaineer. She is known as the second youngest Indian to climb Mount Everest at an age of 19, preceding Arjun Vajpai, the youngest Indian to conquer Mount Everest, She is also the first woman from Maharashtra to climb Everest. She has also conquered the Seven Summits of the world. She scaled Mount Everest on 21st May 2009, becoming the youngest Indian to ascend the peak at the age of 19. The record was broken by Arjun Vajpai on May 22, 2010 exactly one year after Krushnnaas ascend. Krushnaa Patil comes into her own when she is at a height of 5,000 above sea level or more, fighting all odds. The 20-year-old mountaineer has her eyes set on daring records. As you read this, 20-year-old Krushnaa Patil is in Alaska, on her way to scale Mount McKinley the tallest peak (6,194 m) in North America. If she succeeds, shell become the first Indian woman to conquer the famous Seven Summits the tallest peaks on each continent. She was the youngest Indian to conquer Everest last year on May 21, and also the first Indian woman to summit Mount Vinson Massif, the highest peak in Antarctica. Setting records comes easy to this spunky Pune girl who talks nineteen to the dozen. Thats because when I am on a climb, theres absolutely no one to talk to for days except any guide with whom I exchange a few clinical words while deciding the progress of the climb, says Patil, who climbed six of the Seven Summits alone with her guide.

The hardships endured while climbing peaks have taught her to respect life more and value the power of faith. Last December, the young mountaineer was just about 300 metres away from the summit of the 4,897-metre-high Mount Vinson Massif when the weather turned really foul. To speak of it as biting cold would be an understatement. And when you face strong winds with snow in the air, the experience can be nerve-wracking. However, Patil mustered enough courage and wisdom to keep climbing taking advantage of the few sunny moments that regularly interceded with the strong wind. She could afford to be at the peak for only three minutes, but she did it. The Everest summit was easier she was at the top of the world for 45 minutes. Looking at Krushnaa, its difficult to believe that this trendy teenager has anything other than weekend parties and the latest hip labels on her mind. She is wearing a black balloon dress and stilettos, has lined her eyes with Kohl, sports a tattooed Shiva chant on the right side of her neck, and her pretty silver earrings dance along in sync with the movements of her head as she settles down for an informal chat. Just when I am about to quiz her about her Alaska expedition, she takes out a mascara tube from her shoulder bag and asks me if I know how to apply it. I oblige and ask her if she believes in numerology. Let me clarify. The double a in my name has got nothing to with numerology. Lord Krishna gave this name to Draupadi with love, she explains.
