Fox

Thank you for coming tonight Make sure you signed in and completed a contact form Look over the WCPSS presentation at your table

Who is Ms. Fox? What will Ms. Fox be doing with my child? What about in the regular classroom? How will Ms. Fox stay in touch with us? What can I do to support everyone involved? Questions still left?

The Academically Intellectually Gifted (AIG) Program provides an appropriately challenging education for students who perform, or show potential for performing at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared to others of their age, experience, or environment. Services for AIG students include differentiated curriculum and instruction that extends and enriches the Common Core and Essential Standards.

I was a student in WCPSS I was an AIG student at a GT magnet elementary school I was in the accelerated math classes (SSA now) I participated in the Duke TIP search I received the NC Teaching Fellow scholarship to Elon

I earned my BA in elementary education from Elon University I earned my AIG add on license from UNCCharlotte I taught fifth grade for 4 years (three here at Powell) and third grade for 1 year I was a math coach for 4 years at a Title 1 school I am a mother of 2 children

Strong and very strong students (service level) receive 45 minutes of pullout a week for each subject they are identified in Moderate students (service level) are support in the classroom [WCPSS policy] Pullout will occur during regular classroom instruction in that subject My role is to enrich and extend the Common Core Standards, not to accelerate it
In language arts, we are starting with novel studies where we will incorporate nonfiction reading and writing as well In math, we are starting with problem solving to extend what is being taught in the classroom

The homeroom teacher will be providing differentiation through assignments Teachers will provide additional opportunities for your child to be enriched Ms. Fox will collaborate and support teachers in meeting your childs needs in the regular classroom Ms. Fox has given students ongoing assignments to work on in the regular classroom

Reading students will turn in reading response journals to Ms. Fox, through the use of an interactive journal that will create a dialogue between the student and Ms. Fox Math students will turn in problem solving notebooks to Ms. Fox, through the use of an interactive notebook, focusing on being able to explain their mathematical thinking through written expression
